...count me in the camp scratching my head on this one.

Jason Collins is 35 years old, isn't good, and was never good. I don't understand the signing.

They actually wanted Big Baby Davis but he signed with the Clip Show. This is what they decided to do instead. Not really sure how many guys are available at that position right now but I agree, not much upside with Collins.

They prob wanted the attention more than anything, I think a team like the thunder could have used him more, he comes in handy when playing vs low post players like Duncan, Howard, Aldridge, etc. not many of those in the east

I think Collins should retire. He gets manhandled by everyone in the post because he's always been a finesse Center and not one to really scrap under the basket.

That and he's offensively challenged and doesn't even get you rebounds. Confusing signing. They could've easily traded with Boston for Joel Anthony to get six fouls off the bench.

It's sick that this guy wasn't on a team for so long. As soon as he came out of the closet nobody wanted anything to do with him. I mean c'mon. After his fourth consecutive league MVP nobody wanted him on their team. I've never heard of a nine-time world champion being unemployed. This guy has an All-Star event named after him. Kobe quoted him as his childhood hero in his latest memoir.

Exactly lol. Jason Collins has been a garbage man his entire career. Great guy but I just remember him getting abused by Shaq.

Why You Should Call Jason Collins a Scrub & Nothing Else
by Robert Littal | Posted on Monday, February 24th, 2014

The best thing we can all do and that includes the media is to treat Jason Collins no differently than we treat Nazr Mohammed (who has been in the league longer than Collins, with slightly better numbers, which isn’t saying much).

He’s a veteran scrub, towel waving, bench warmer. Being gay doesn’t change that, he was that before he came out and he’s that now. If he truly wants it to be about basketball and if we truly want to get to the point where we simply don’t care about someone’s sexual orientation, the media and league should stop propping the player up as something special. When you dealing with equal rights, you can’t forget the equal part. The whole point is that you are trying to get away from not being treated fairly, so being put pedestal goes against what you are fighting for.

The media (myself included) sometimes don’t give the fans and people in general enough credit. There are always going to be some knuckleheads out there, but I like to think the majority of fans are good people who can reasonably understand what having a gay player in the NBA means without having it shoved down their throat. The Lakers crowd showed us that last night by their reaction when Collins entered the game.

This isn’t Jackie Robinson, this isn’t even Michael Sam, this is an established veteran player deciding he wanted to tell people he is gay. He doesn’t have to worry about draft stock or winning over a locker room. He has been in NBA locker rooms for over a decade. Players, teams and fans know what he is and what he isn’t as a basketball player and frankly that is all the majority of them care about.

It's a ten day deal, he'll be gone on day eleven.

Someone said on TV yesterday that he'll "probably get another 10 day contract and see if he can help a playoff push."

    I LOL'D.

I admittedly don't pay a lot of attention to anything outside of the NFL, but even I know that the guy is a horrible basketball player.

I've paid very close attention to the NBA my whole life.

Vlade Divac would've embarrassed Jason Collins in his prime.

I've never really had one. I think it comes from growing up really playing basketball more than any other sport. I just enjoy watching good basketball.

If I had to pick, I guess I would go with my hometown Washington Wizards.

I'll say this for basketball, the playoffs are extremely exciting. I actually found myself watching every playoff game I could a couple of years back. It's a sport that I've always enjoyed playing, but could just never get into as a fan. I think it's because I grew up in an area that didn't have an NBA team (or any professional team) within hundreds of miles. That, and Texas is football first, and everything else is just kind of an afterthought.

I tell you what, the NBA today is as good as its been since the Jordan era. There is so much talent in the league (although most of it is relegated to the Western Conference) that it's actually fun to watch. The Iverson era was the dark age of the NBA...there was nobody happier than me when his skills finally fell off and the Iverson-style of play fell off along with him. Team basketball is back and its great stuff.

You know, the few times that I've watched over the years, I'm immediately turned away by the flopping. I understand that it's gotten a lot better with rule changes, once the playoffs get rolling, I'll give basketball another shot.

It hasn't changed in 20 years, lol. As long as the charge has been in the game, players have flopped.

Check out the YouTube video of Charles Barkley flopping like Divac, hahaha.

So as a guy who follows basketball, who do you think is the best player of all time? I've heard a lot of talk recently about LeBron vs. Jordan.

LMAO, I question the signing too because as you have said, Collins has never been good and now he's just old, but If I offered you vet minimum (how long has he been in the league, 10+ years?) to sit on a bench for 35 minutes and run up and down a court for less than 15, you wouldn't!?
