His quote was more in reference to how often his team was in nickel last season (66%) and the need to have three quality corners, even four to remain competitive. That's not surprising seeing as DEN generally had the lead and had to protect it with their nickel pass D but Del Rio didn't say the nickel has taken over for the standard 4-3's and 3-4 D's. I thought that would be the way of the league a couple of seasons ago tbh (nickel hybrid D's becoming the standard D) but running games are relied on heavily in the playoffs; even more so with SEA/SF throwback Offenses.

Well, all teams are having to play SPs and they all need 3-4 corners and 2-3 safeties. We probably should have a SP Mike IMO although I don't know who'd it be.

A sub with Church as the nickel Mike? I actually like the sound of that. Ideally, we could have Carter use his athleticism in coverage and get Church closer to the line. Back to Madden for me:D

This has been discussed. I think Church can do it. I liked the idea of having Ernie Sims do it until I figured out he couldn't play with any discipline and didn't have the instincts to make plays.

Durant could be the Nickel Mike. Carter might could do it if his coverage ability gets better. I have a feeling Holloman can do it but I don't know that just suspect it. He still needs more seasoning.

It's highly likely that 2 of the following are the Nickel LBs: Carter, Holloman, Durant.

I was thinking of one high Mike playing pass with the ability to come up in run support; that assumes 3-4 DL and 6-7 DBs.

The Nickel has 2 LBs. One LB is the Dime defense.

Speaking of Madden, wanna hear something funny? BW Webb and Sterling Moore are currently 2 of my top 3 CBs (they have developed quite well actually lol)

We're just talking SPs here of all types. What do you call a package without a LB? Or one high LB and 3 down lineman? They use multiple SPs. Not all Nickel packages have the same personnel or scheme and neither does the Dime.

I really haven't played as much Madden the last few years but still dabble :D. That is one of the perks to the game in developing the team "your way" that I still have some fun with (Carter is a beast as a nickel rusher as well:confused:). They kinda lost me when they took out the editing of positions.
