http://www.cowboysnation.com/2011/09/niners-week-part-four-put-red-in.html Key matchups: 1. DEs Justin Smith and Ray McDonald vs. LT Doug Free and RT Tyron Smith. The Niners guys won nearly all their duels. On 1st and 2nd downs, they set the edges, keeping Marshawn Lynch from gaining any real estate on outside runs. On passing downs, they slid inside over the Seahawks guards, when Fangio went to his stock 4-2-5 nickel. McDonald pushed rookie RG John Moffit around, but it was Smith who did the most damage, as he won his duels with LT Russell Okung, the Seahawks best lineman. If Free and Smith handle their guys, Fangio will have to call up more blitzes, which the Cowboys welcome. If they fail, Fangio will again have a much easier game to call, because the coverage numbers will fall in his favor. 2. TE Jason Witten and WR Kevin Ogletree vs. 49ers safeties Donte Whitner, Dashon Goldson and Reggie Smith. Goldson injured a knee and Smith replaced him. Seattle did much of its damage in the middle of the field, working the big 49ers safeties, who lack big speed. Both of Seattle's touchdowns came on passes working the intermediate middle. Late rotation and a poor angle by Smith helped the Seahawks get their second touchdown late. What you see are the early stages of a zone blitz, with San Francisco bringing an overload from Seattle's right. OLB Ahmad Brooks (55) the SS Whiter, ILB Patrick Willis (52) and the strong safety Whither are coming in layers up their left channel.
