IRVING -- Cowboys second-round pick Bruce Carter said Thursday that he's still a month away from being released to practice with the team.

Carter, the rookie linebacker out of North Carolina, said he's been told that he won't be fully released to practice with the team until Oct. 23, which is the Sunday the Cowboys host St. Louis. So, that means Carter really wouldn't practice with the team for the first time until Wednesday, Oct. 26.

Unfortunately we are almost certain to not get a chance to see him until next TC.

I believe we see him this season in select packages.

For some reason I thought it said "released to practice squad".

Here's to hoping he can get some time this season. I doubt it. Basically starting training camp around week 8 makes a lot of ground to be made up.

Unless there's a setback you'll see him for at least the last month of the season.

I think it's important for him to get out there and blow the rust off. Plus test that knee so he can come into the OTAs and mini camps next year confident that he's back. Getting a taste this year of what the NFL game is all about wouldn't hurt either.

If he is as good as Sean Lee or anywhere close, I don't mind waiting several months or until next year.

Just stay healthy and I hope your talent and hard work pay off in a starting spot as soon as possible.

I agree Hos. They are going to want to put this kid in and get him some snaps this year.

Personally, I'd just as soon put him on the 53 so he can practice a bit, but let him wait until next year for game action. (Unless injuries force him into the lineup.)

Russ Lande, the scout for the Sporting News, mentioned on Twitter today that he was looking at North Carolina prospects by reviewing some of their 2010 game film. He said Carter is going to be a "star" next year when he returns from his injury.

Hopefully he is learning the playbook and what he is supposed to be doing out on the field.

He is a very important player for our future - he is a great weapon to use against teams that like to throw short to RBs and TEs.

special team for certain and maybe some selected packages where his assignment is limited.

also depends on injuries...may force our hand.

He plays ST -- you certainly want him active for that over Albright
