Good news. I hope Jerry manages the cap better in the future and learns from his mistakes.
Get our top rookies signed
They will sign their rookies with that I imagine.
Rookies will take up about 2m in capspace.
Amen to that. Bizarre that we gain space for Austin, yet still are on the books for $5.1 million for him next year.
I think all are signed except Martin & Lawrence. Should be in good shape should they try to get a replacement for Lee if needed or some decent depth if a current player steps in.
I see it more being used to extend Dez.
After them I wonder what the total space will be?
If we resigned dez go long term contract. Would that open more cap space ?
No. His rookie contract is a friendly as it will.
They will eventually lock him up though.
Not a cap expert by any means. But I think it would depend on signing bonus, when it takes effect, and base salary.
someone else would know, one of the cap guru's.
According to that article between $7-8 million, assuming there is $10M available right now.
That would sure be nice for a change. If there are some cuts from other teams we are interested in we wouldn't be too strapped to give them a look.
Judging by what we have done this offseason it seems he has.
IIRC the 5.5m isn't slotted for the rookies our cap space prior to this was calculated with the rookie pool already added in so this 5.5M should be GTG for whatever like Lee's possible replacement or Dez or Tyron's extension.
I don't think that is really at the forefront. Most if not all of our room will go towards Smith and Bryant.
Good. Then we will have a little space left over.
cap space creates options...if nothing presents itself in TC/pre-season it can be used as part of a deal for Dez or it can be rolled to next year...
space = good
You got to give the front office some credit. They got us out of cap hell for the time being. Hasn't Jerry stated the cap is basically Stephens thing?
