    DALLAS - During his playing career with the Cowboys, Roger Staubach occasionally suggested that he ought to be allowed to call his own plays. Former coach Tom Landry disagreed, and since Staubach's era, the idea that a quarterback could direct his offense from the field has largely gone by the wayside.

    In this unique NFL offseason, though, current Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo is taking an even bigger responsibility, actually overseeing players-only practices as the offense's de facto coach.
