The Dallas Cowboys have given the National Football League the team's first official notification that it intends to bid on the 2016 Super Bowl, team spokesman Brett Daniels said.

NFL officials contacted teams about a month ago to start assembling a list of potential bidders for the Super Bowls held from 2015 to 2019. The paperwork sent to league headquarters says the Cowboys would be interested in hosting their second NFL championship starting with Super Bowl L, Daniels said.

The region's first Super Bowl will be played Feb. 6 at Cowboys Stadium. Super Bowl L is expected to be awarded by NFL owners when they meet in spring 2012.
