Donald is considered to be a 3-technique defensive tackle in a 4-3 scheme. But the Cowboys agreed to contract terms with a veteran free agent 3-technique Tuesday night.

So how does the Henry Melton deal affect Donald?

“You never know,” Donald said Wednesday morning on 105.3 The Fan [KRLD-FM]. “At the end of the day you never know what team still wants what player. You just never know with the draft.”

Donald met with the Cowboys last month during the scouting combine in Indianapolis. According to Donald, there weren’t any surprises during the meeting.

“Pretty much when I talked with the Cowboys, they wanted to get my football knowledge, get to know about me and the way I play the game and the way I learned the game,” Donald said.

28.5 tackles for loss. Oh yeah 11 sacks.

This dude is a beast and IMO might go top 10. :(

Any other draft he'd be top 5, how people can be down on his size after what Geno Atkins has done in this league is crazy

So in year 1 (or beyond if Melton lights it us), would that mean we only get 25% of the player because he and Melton play the same position?
That would assume a rotation at DT3....which we will do, but you usually hope your 1st round pick is the one getting 75%

They would both be on the field in the Nickel which is about 1/3 of the snaps, therefore:

    Nickel 1/3

Each gets 1/2 of the remaining 2/3 which equals 1/3.

Each player gets a total of 2/3rds of the snaps (67%).

That works if it played out that way.

I guess I would have assumed Melton would get more snaps in year 1. Then again, him coming back from the ACL makes your suggestion more feasible.

One of them could also move out to DE on running downs when they want a big lineup.

I agree with that and then run both inside on the nickel. Now that would be a very strong inside if Melton is back to Pro Bowl form.
