IRVING — How good must the Cowboys be to win the NFC East?

Every team in the NFC East lost Sunday. Two of them — Philadelphia and New York — suffered home losses. The Giants, Eagles and Washington Redskins lost by a combined 39 points.

“There’s no doubt you always want every other team in the division to lose,” tight end Jason Witten said. “That probably does help in the grand scheme of things.

“But it’s too early to talk much about that. We need to focus on ourselves and getting better.”

Well it's huge that the Giants start off 0-2, this does bode well for the Cowboys.

I agree with that. Terrible division.

After watching Dallas reap 6 turnovers and barely winning and then finding new ways to lose in KC, I have to believe the Cowboys could only take the East by default. The Dallas offense has no drive to win, though I'm pleased so far by the defense.

New York and even Washington each have strong coaches who have willed their teams to strong finishes in recent years. Dallas' last strong finish was 2009, and they did it against bad teams. When they faced the Vikings they showed their true colors and barely put up a fight in a humiliating loss.

For Dallas to win and for it to mean a damned thing at all, Tony and the rest of the offense have to pull their heads out of their nether regions right now.

It's way too early to make judgements on teams performance and try to extrapolate that performance throughout the year.

Almost as bad as the early 2000s when the Eagles only had to show up to the games to get wins against the Giants, Skins, and Cowboys. Yikes.
