Courtney Upshaw will make many preseason All-American lists.
    1. Tank Carder, Texas Christian – While most people rank this TCU product as an outside linebacker, he is blessed with the skill set to be a top-notch middle linebacker. Carder is a playmaker in the Horned Frogs defense, with the ability to cover ground from sideline-to-sideline. Last season he had 60 total tackles, 9.5 tackles for loss, 3.5 sacks and one interception on his way to securing Mountain West Conference Defensive Player of the Year honors. He also earned Defensive MVP accolades with his performance against Wisconsin in the Rose Bowl.

    2. Courtney Upshaw, Alabama – In 2010, Upshaw started 12 games at Alabama’s “Jack” position. Although he plays outside linebacker in Nick Saban’s scheme, this Crimson Tide is projected by many as an inside linebacker at the next level. One thing is for sure – at 265 pounds the SEC product has more than enough bulk to play in a 3-4 scheme – either inside or out. He is a big physical football player, who displayed his ability as a reliable tackler and a capable pass rusher during his breakout junior campaign. Upshaw registered 52 total tackles, 14.5 tackles for loss, and seven sacks a year ago, and has many predicting a first-round selection come April of 2012. He can solidify that status if he can improve in pass coverage as a senior, but no one can deny that Upshaw is a legit playmaker when he is going downhill.
