SAN ANTONIO – The Cowboys have created enough cap space to sign at least six unrestricted free agents, according to executive vice president Stephen Jones.

That group includes the free agents who re-sign with the Cowboys, such as left tackle Doug Free, left guard Kyle Kosier and hopefully defensive end Stephen Bowen. It isn’t likely to include a high-priced Pro Bowler, as Free’s four-year, $32 million deal will probably be the Cowboys’ biggest financial commitment in this hectic free agency period.

The Cowboys intend to address three areas in free agency: offensive line, defensive end and safety. Adding a veteran receiver or cornerback isn’t a priority despite Dallas’ questionable depth at those positions.

Elam + a DE + OG is my guess.

They slotted for specifics by position if I read this correctly.

#Cowboys also pursuing free agent DE Cullen Jenkins per Mike Florio. Seems like $$$ vs. chance to play for a contender http://bit.ly/lD9z7b

This makes it sounds like guys have restructured without them making it public.

They don't have to make it public if they agreed to it. They also don't have to turn it in for it to already be signed.

6 free agents is not much in total cap dollars. SJ has a firm handle on our exact cap at every second of every day. He had a plan and is executing it. But it was never about going after a bunch of big time free agents.

They clearly want a disruptive DE to make Ware and Spencer that much more effective but outside that they are content with what we had minus a safety.

We may catch a bargain or two but we aren't grabbing NA or any big names unless they want to play for the Boys at a discount.
This time next year we'll be glad they took a cautious approach.

I feel like Spears staying or leaving is depending alot on Jenkins decision. I personally am indifferent on Spears staying, but not at the expense of an upgrade...even a slight one. He (Spears) has never been a problem, but certainly hasn't been a force on the line.

Getting six free agents is a pretty ambitious number. If that many are brought into the fold for us, it's a pretty good bet they'll have to be "bargain basement," IMHO.

That total includes the Cowboys players that resign with the team so it is not bringing in six new players.

Seems like you changed your thinking a little.

You sure didn't have this confidence in SJ on June 22.
