For some reason, i got a gut feeling the eagles are going to sign him. That would just ruin my day.

That is a just the type of tactic they did in past. Young, proven all-pro just entering prime.

I think a lot of folks will be disappointed when JJ and crew show no interest in Nicks.

FA will be about fixing the defense. If we sign any OL, I think it will be a center. Hopefully I'm wrong. Would love to see Nicks and Carr sign.

They are no better at signing FA than they are at drafting...they sign big names not for position of need...it makes them feel elite

Actually this may only help them get a deal done with Nicks. They are going to pay Bree's a lot less under the franchise tag then they would if they strike a deal.

You're probably right as far as it pertains to yearly average, but being able to carry the guaranteed/bonus portion of the contract over several years could put the Saints in a position that Bree's cap charge for this season would be much less than the hit they would take if he were franchised.

I see Brees agent calling the Redskins, Dolphins, and Browns right now.

He can all them all he likes...

If the Saints franchise Brees, it's finished for this season.

Can a player refuse the franchise tag?
