ARLINGTON -- They cut a starting guard, lost another to injury and had their starting center unavailable for the first two weeks of training camp. But the Dallas Cowboys don't act like a team short on options in the interior offensive line. They used Phil Costa at center while Andre Gurode recovered from knee surgery. They plugged rookie David Arkin in at a guard spot when Montrae Holland -- last season's backup to the released Leonard Davis -- hurt his back just days into camp.

Gurode has come back, but the Cowboys want to keep looking at Costa.
And Monday, they threw another rookie, Bill Nagy, into the mix at guard. Nagy, a seventh-round pick out of Wisconsin, practiced with the first team.

    Costa, Arkin, Nagy, Holland. Options.

Encouraging that they're not ruling anything out - other than Holland.

He should be ruled out - permanently.

On Holland "He would be," Houck said. "He's a veteran guy that we have as our starter at this particular point."

That is not a ringing endorsement, I don't think anything is set in stone

    I sure hope not.

But this fan would feel better if a veteran were brought in to stabilize one of this team's biggest question marks.

    I can't help it when I feel they're making a big mistake.

And one which will come back to haunt them.

I'm not so quick to suddenly believe that they've hit on Smith, Arkin, Costa and Nagy.

Not from the folks who brought me Jacob Rodgers, Stephen Peterman, James Marten, Robert Brewster among others.

Same folks that picked them are not here.

I'm not saying the youngster they picked will be the starters on opening day. Right now they are getting the reps the coaches need them to have to see how they perform. I do think if they feel the need to get a vet OL player to step in they will go outside and get one.

I just hope there's one available when they do decide.

Every day that goes by is another day where another team could have a need as well.

I would hate for the cupboard to be bare when the team finally realizes what many of us already do.

I don't think the cupboard will be bare.

Maybe it is just me but I'm willing to give Garrett leeway to put a team together.

I'll give him some leeway, but not enough for me to believe that we've suddenly hit on not one, not two, not three, but four offensive linemen.

One inexperienced guy on the offensive line is enough for me to start the season.

We will see how they progesses. I would love to have a vet offensive line but you can't rebuild the line and not put in young guys. If Garrett does not think the current guys can handle it then I think he will look outside.

I'm just not comfortable trying to do it all at once.

I hope so. And I hope that there's an alternative left when they decide to do it.

My comfort level will depend on how they perform. Big test with SD who had one of the top rated defense. Starter will see more time in this game.

Yeah, I'm looking forward to that too.

I'd like to see some more running game out of the starters.

I agree I will say Felix had some good runs on the one and only series the starter played. Hopefully with Gurode back out on the field he will be able to play in this upcoming game.
