I don't mind Dareus in the teens, but if I'm taking a DL with a the 2nd pick in the draft I want someone who makes some plays on the other side of the line of scrimmage. Dareus rarely did that.

I think the kid is going to be better than you think. He isn't the disruptor that Suh is, but the guy is quick and he is a wall that is damn hard to get past. (He will be better than Gerald McCoy) He is quick and can shed blocks and get to his man. He is easily better than Marcus Spears. There are only two player players I would take before Dareus. Peterson and Tyron Smith. The only reason I take Smith first is because it's a more valuable position and I think Smith is going to end up being one of the better tackles in the league.

If a 4-3 team takes Dareus, I think he ends up being like a Marcus Stroud. A run stopping machine who can push the pocket backwards especially in a 1-on-1 situation that happen for 4-3 DTs. If he goes to a 3-4 team, it will be hell to run at him. It will be even worse if he plays DE that team has a decent OLB hanging off his hip.

When Casserly was asked about Fairley's stock falling, he said he hadn't talked to one team that had Fairley ahead of Dareus, ever.

Funny, Parcells has Solder as his #1 OT and now Goose hears he's the #2 OT. Still can't figure out why so many people think he's garbage.

Seems to me that the two QBs are such a wild card this year. Both have big upside but also big question marks. I just can't see both of them falling that far, though.

Stroud might be a very good comparison...

    From his 2001 Draft bio...

That's kind of how I feel about Dareus. Stroud has only averaged 3 sacks a year for his career. He was pretty much a stout run plugger who rarely made plays on the other side of the line of scrimmage.

Again, not that I necessarily hate Dareus, but just that I want more big play ability out of the #2 pick. I still can't get over the fact that Fairely literally made more than double the plays behind the line of scrimmage that Dareus did, when they played in the same conference against largely the same compeition.

If you're picking Dereus at #13 (where Stroud was drafted), I would be more at ease with him.

Based upon his time here, I have a hard time placing much stock in Parcells' evaluation of offensive lineman (though he did a great job in terms of evaluating talent at other positions). In fact, I'd go so far as to suggest that his evaluation may lend credence to the prevailing view that Solder is garbage.

Yeah, IR, Dareus is a guy I was hoping we'd take early in the process before his stock shot up... It seems like he got graded up for his combine workouts, because IMO he doesn't play as athletic as he timed. He does seem like more of a run player, and I'm not sure he's a top-3 kind of guy.

But again, he's supposedly a great character guy, and I suspect Fairley has more negative things going on than we know about. And that does matter a lot when you're paying a young guy a fortune.

Also, are we sure Dareus wasn't just doing what was asked of him in Saban's scheme?

Even if we draft Smith, you might have to go another season w/Colombo on the right side. Food for thought.
