I just learned this one, but it is too cool. What to do with empty plastic water bottles?

Cut the top off right at the bell shaped area. Then if you have open bags of food (like say a bag of rice) twist the bag and place it up through the bottle opening. Now fold the plastic bag back down and put the lid back on the plastic bottle.

Your food is air tight and won't spill.

    Sounds useful.

In fact, sounds like a pack of 3 should cost a buck.

Patent a version and sell it.

    Funny, but true.

My wife has been looking at Pinterest, and suddenly my Honey-do list is 30 pages long.

It's ok though, I told her if she wanted me to start making her all of the crap she sees on Pinterest and Etsy, she has to buy me a new table saw. :)

Here's another one. This is my own invention. What you need is an empty 5 gallon paint bucket and a saw.

Halfway up the bucket draw a line all the way around. Now cut the bucket in half on that line. Take the bottom piece and drop it through the top piece.

When you grab the handle the bottom piece does not drop through, it holds in place.

What is this good for you ask? Oil changes. The sawn in half bucket holds 2.5 gallons of oil. More than enough. It fits under most cars. It now has a carry handle and if you keep the lid, a cover so nothing falls in.

I generally use zip bags for this type of stuff. (sandwich and freezer bags for store bought cookies, etc) that need to be air tight.

We don't buy very many plastic screw top lid bottles. The most are probably Welches Lite Grape Juice and that is probably once a month.

For you folks who have garbage disposals here's one. In your freezer get an ice tray that is a different color. If you have white use a blue one. This is so you never make an error with the next step.

Pour white vinegar in the ice tray and freeze it.

Once a week turn on the cold water and the disposal. Toss in 2 vinegar cubes. The ice sharpens the blades and the vinegar deodorizes the disposal.

What's with ice trays? Why wouldn't anyone use them anymore?

Not everyone can afford a fridge with an ice maker. I certainly never owned one until we bought our place in october. Pretty much anyone that rents in NYC has an older fridge, and they don't have ice makers.

So why do you have them ?

I guess I have been spoiled since I have had an ice maker since the 70's. I think most places you can replace the fridge if you want.

Same reason people don't use ice picks anymore.

Never had an icemaker until I moved into my house a bunch of years ago. Now they're just sitting in the pantry collecting dust.

However, I've been keeping kids alot lately and they've suggested making homemade popsicles using the ice trays. So they still have a purpose even if I don't use them for the originally intended use.

Oh. I never use the built in ice maker, I use water from the Britta in ice trays.

I have a water filter on the fridge, and so it definitely helps.
