An economics professor at a local college made a statement that he had never failed a single student before,
but had once failed an entire class.

That class had insisted that Obama's socialism worked and that no one would be poor and no one would be rich, a great equalizer.

    The professor then said, "OK,
we will have an experiment in this class on Obama's plan".

All grades would be averaged and everyone would receive the same grade so no one would fail and no one would receive an A.

After the first test, the grades were averaged and everyone got a B.
The students who studied hard were upset and the students who studied little were happy.

As the second test rolled around, the students who studied little had studied even less and the ones who studied hard decided they wanted a free ride too so they studied little.
The second test average was a D!
    No one was happy.

When the 3rd test rolled around, the average was an F.

The scores never increased as bickering,
blame and name-calling all resulted in hard feelings and no one would study for the benefit of anyone else.

All failed, to their great surprise, and the professor told them that socialism would also ultimately fail because when the reward is great, the effort to succeed is great but when government takes all the reward away, no one will try or want to succeed.

Could not be any simpler than that.

Do you believe, urban legand or not, that what is illustrated here is correct?

Since it never happened? I'd say no, it's not correct.

Why would you say that this has never happened? I think that there are plenty of examples in life where we have seen this happen. Would you not agree Count?

I say the OP never happened because it didn't. I would agree that there are real examples to point to as to how socialism has failed, sure.

OK. That's reasonable. That is all I'm was asking.

I'm truly embarrassed for those of you who think this is a good analogy.

Why is it a poor analogy. Nobody was killed? I suppose if the professor shot the few who objected it would be more realistic.

You have to remember that this directly attacks the core beliefs of Cowboy- so of course he must react quickly to restore his fig leaf.

    1. Because its not real.

    2. Because a WHOLE class agrees that Obama's plan works? First of all, you can't get a whole class to agree on anything.

    3. My favorite part......"the whole class agreed that socialism worked and that nobody would be poor, and nobody would be rich". Now where has Obama said this? Yet you have a whole class that "agrees" with it. If your BS meter didn't go into overdrive when you read that sentence, you could be declared legally ********.

    4. Obama's plan calls for socialism?? Says who? Only to rightwing nuts, thats who.

    5. Are you really going to compare a few programs, like GM's bailout or the banking bailout to a true form of socialism? I don't like these bailouts either, but to imply that we're a socialist system now because of it, is outright STUPID.

Its a stupid anology when you compare it to our country. And if you don't think so, than I am embarrassed for you.

I would not be surprised at all that in places like SF and Berkely you could find whole classes of poorly educated and ignorant types that would be all for socialism.

ANd remember Cowboy that every journey begins with a first step. That is what Obama and company are on now.

I'm going to go out on a limb here and say you've never been to college.

Either way, re-read the analogy, and pay special attention to the part that says "Indiana professor", and then get back with me.

never claimed it was real. I said it was an analogy.

    Use analogy in a Sentence

–noun, plural -gies. 1.a similarity between like features of two things, on which a comparison may be based: the analogy between the heart and a pump. 2.similarity or comparability: I see no analogy between your problem and mine. 3.Biology. an analogous relationship.4.Linguistics. a.the process by which words or phrases are created or re-formed according to existing patterns in the language, as when shoon was re-formed as shoes, when -ize is added to nouns like winter to form verbs, or when a child says foots for feet.b.a form resulting from such a process.5.Logic. a form of reasoning in which one thing is inferred to be similar to another thing in a certain respect, on the basis of the known similarity between the things in other respects.

Now I understand you are in favor of nationalizing the banks and Auto industry along with the medical industry, but most Americans are not. I am not in favor of socializing risks and stealing profit. I understand you are. That is fine, but don't expect me to like it or agree with you.
