I do think they should fit well. Crawford too.
Now the Cowboys are going to be a sure-tackling, fundamentals-based 4-3 defense. At least until next year when Jerry fires Red for losing because the defense will not have the right personnel to run a good scheme. Then the new coach will come in and Jerry will fire Kiffin determining that they need to go with another defensive philosophy. Either that or Jerruh tells the new HC that he has to keep the existing staff.
Sorry for my negativity but I don't think this will end well.
Not upset about it...not thrilled about it.
Kind of Meh about it.
Hope it works out.
count me as one of those who isnt on board with this move. i didnt like the way Ryan was fired, and really feel that the weakness of our coaching staff has to do alot more with the offensive side of the ball, and special teams. Hope it works out.
Vince Lombardi was first an offensive Corrodinator.
EXACTLY. The man has not even started and some people are already claiming losing records and that it's an awful mistake and blah blah blah.
I'd feel a lot better about it if the changes for the offensive side of the ball would start coming in.
Agreed. The only thing I worry about age is health. I think he still has something he wants to prove so motivation should be there. Can't wait to see what else unfolds.
Well I guess you are right.
@nickeatman: Monte Kiffin will be defensive coordinator for the cowboys. He's agreed to the job but team hasn't made it official
I cannot change the title anymore, if any of the mods think it should be changed, please go ahead and do it.
No doubt. Wouldn't shock me if Crawford pushed for a starting job...
So with the age factor and all, I think the real question here is who is the assistant dc?
Fantastic. Can we start addressing the real problems now? When are we interviewing OC's?
I like the hire but we still need a couple of impact defensive linemen to make this work. Carter, Lee and Sims are perfect for a 4-3 and say goodbye to Coleman and Spears.
Explain how the team will get worse when they just upgraded at the DC position? Are you trying to imply that Rob Ryan is better than Monte Kiffin?
Oh and this team will never be 4-12 while Tony Romo is behind center.
Dude, don't try to talk football and make sense.
Three days after firing Rob Ryan, the Dallas Cowboys have hired Monte Kiffin as their new defensive coordinator, according to sources.
Kiffin will have to re-tool a defense that has been in a 3-4 scheme since 2005 and might lose outside linebacker Anthony Spencer to free agency.
He will also likely have to re-work the coaching staff. Defensive line coach Brian Baker, linebacker coach Matt Eberflus, secondary coach Jerome Henderson and assistant secondary Joe Baker are all under contract but, according to sources, will have to re-interview to remain and have been granted permission to speak with other teams.
We will find out in about 300 days.
Did we even talk to Lovie Smith?
I don't get the move but whatever. I'm not excited about it. We should move to a 4-3 in any case.
