IRVING, Texas – Heading into the offseason practices, there was a lot of chatter about several linebackers.

Sean Lee[IMG]’s health was a question and unfortunately for him and the Cowboys, that came to fruition in the first OTA practice when he went down with a torn ACL.

Bruce Carter[IMG]’s progress, Kyle Wilber[IMG] and DeVonte Holloman[IMG]’s learning curve and the maturation process of rookie Anthony Hitchens[IMG] have all been discussed.

So who was the story after Monday’s OTA practice here at Valley Ranch?

Well, that’d be Justin Durant[IMG], of course.

Considered by many as the forgotten guy of the linebacking corps, Durant now finds himself in the middle of the action – literally.

Durant was the Cowboys’ starting middle linebacker during Monday’s OTA practice with Sean Lee now out for the season with a torn ACL in his left knee. Durant was the primary backup for Lee last year but also sustained some injuries as well. He missed four of the last six games with hamstring injuries last season and only finished with 30 tackles in 11 games.

But this is another opportunity for the veteran linebacker, who has played seemingly every linebacker position during his seven-year career.

I actually feel more confident about Durant being our MLB than BRian Urlacher.

Yes, because Durant is the only one of the two that can still run a sub 6.0 forty.

Why? With a friendly 1-2 year he would teach all of our young guys more than anyone else could...

Durant just isn't physical enough to sustain season. Carter mentally couldn't handle it. That leaves the rookie 4th round pick and vet they bring in after June 1st cuts. Its not going to be pretty but this style defense doesn't need Ken Norton Jr in there popping people.

Durant has played in 89 of a possible 112 games in his career.

I don't think Durant is the answer, either.

    Possibly a trade.

If Spencer was healthy.. I would say try him there.

He is reportedly wanting to play at 265, right?

    Maybe a match.

Are you saying Spencer at MLB?

Hopefully you're joking. Spencer has never played MLB and you're unlikely to find any MLB in the NFL that big.

You want Spencer at MLB? In a Tampa 2?

considering our situation, its worth a try... I really hope Hitchens proves the majority of us wrong and becomes a player...

I think Hitchens will do alot better than what people think. Not alot of expectation for him as Shazier would have gotten, still think they will sign a vet though.

I'd rather see Durant there than Urlacher. I will be pissed if we sign Xfinity Urlacher at any point.

Might as well dig up Darren Hambrick to play MLB.

Probaby Holloman and Wilber. Durant had moved to WLB before Lee's injury.

This might be one of the reasons that Durant is at MLB.

On a how-desperate-are-we note...what happened to Alex Albright after his back surgery injury release? He was getting work and both SAM and MLB last year, wasn't he? I like those high-effort guys with ST ability in my emergency scraps.

They like Durant in the middle although obviously not their first choice. Will be interesting to see how this breaks.
