He did nothing of the sort last week against backups. This joker last night is not an NFL lineman.

We'll see in the regular season because the suspensions will require he plays a ton early.

Disagree. I'd argue Erod tends to express pragmatic and not 100% homer assessments of Cowboys decisions, players, coaches, FO, etc.

I value takes like Erod's more than 100% homer assessments.

When someone challenges group think I actually get interested.

Somebody has to counter the non-thinking homers that lack any and all objectivity.

Homer's struggle with reality and anyone that doesn't agree with their views. You kind of get used to it after a while.

    Thanks.

There is no greater unrealistic homer than me during games. I'm an emotionally irrational fan until hours after the game, in fact.

Then, I step back and try to be realistic and objective about the truth of what I saw.

And I never fall for the Adrian Hamilton bait. I have to see it before I believe it, which is where I am with Taco.

Rico has earned my interest though. I hope to be very wrong about him. Great hands for sure.

Taco will likely be a 2-year project like many pass rushers.

Agreed. Much too early to judge him. But if it's it too early to praise him for a good play and take away credit for a sack-- then it stands to reason it's also too early to declare him "soft".

If you want to label him soft last week b/c he didn't do anything to impress you in one game-- then you need to extend the same courtesy to fans who want to rush to support him after last nights performance.

I understand you are in a predicament as you rushed to an early judgment last week-- so therefore feel you have to discredit any evidence that may be contrary to your stated opinion in order to save face.

For the record-- I am rooting for the kid, but I am not sold he is the next coming of Charles Haley. He struggled last week, looked better and flashed last night-- lot more football left to play and there is no reason to rush to judgment yet one way or the other.

A little patience will go a long way lol

That wasn't about one game last week. It was about his entire camp so far.

    Even Marinelli said as much.

This. If you know what to look for it was obvious.

Marinelli praised him when they drafted him. Then publicly called him out after 16 snaps last week. Taco responded with 3 tackles and a sack the following week.

    Tells me three things:

    1. Rod believes in the ability and potential of the player since he advocated drafting him.

    2. The fact Rod publicly dogged him shows even more that Rod does not think he has played to his potential yet-- otherwise why call him out?

    3. Taco's response shows that he is teachable and received Rod's message loud and clear.

What exactly is the problem again? Unless you expected him to come in right away as a fully developed Pro Bowler-- you should be pleased with what you are seeing from Taco and Rod right now.

Temper the enthusiasm after playing better in this game, but **** all over the kid for playing bad in the first game. Makes complete sense.

You literally said he was "another Shante Carver" after one preseason game. Get over yourself.

Saying he underperformed and needs to play better is objectivity. Saying he's Kavika Pittman after one preseason game is primadonna nonsense.

Carver, Pittman, Ekuban, Spears.....this team has blown many first-round picks on defensive lineman before.

    We'll see.

What is encouraging about Charlton's performance last night is that he used an inside move quite a bit, and was able to get penetration and pressure. Inside moves are usually ones that young pass rushers develop after some time in the league - most tend to rely on outside speed rushes or bull rushes. Charlton looked much quicker, fluid and confident last night. It was good to see - he needs to keep building on this.

The argument last week is that he didn't show much vs an inferior line and now the argument is that he ONLY impressed due to an inferior line. Can't have it both ways. Too inconsistent and demonstrates a negative agenda. The entire point is that it's too early to declare anything either way. Pretty simple.

This isn't just an inferior line. It's the worst line in the NFL, and that was the third string LT who is an undrafted free agent.

Taco basically beat me last night to the QB.

Let's see how he looks against the Giants when half of our defensive ends are suspended.

I haven't seen last nights game yet, so my comments are based on his limited body of work and measurables before last night's game. His 40 time is pretty pedestrian. It's not the end all be all, but it is an indication of speed and burst.

If you know a guy can't help you this year, his measurables better be closer to Ware than Hardy. I hope he develops faster than we have seen to justify the pick at 28.

Need to add "at left defensive end" to your post to really be totally spot on. Very good post though.
