In the aftermath of that July incident, Bryant's career hung in the balance. No one doubted his immense potential on the field, but he seemed incapable of handling things away from it. He went through court-appointed counseling sessions with his mother, and he surrounded himself with a security detail when he was away from Valley Ranch.

Those close to him insist that he has changed his life for the better and no longer puts himself in bad situations. In a phone interview with FOXSportsSouthwest.com on Tuesday, Bryant's longtime mentor David Wells credited NBA legend Michael Jordan for teaching the wide receiver how to be more professional.

I honestly believed all the stories last month about Bryant's association with Nike's Jordan Brand seemed a little forced. But Wells said Tuesday that Jordan and Bryant speak by phone twice a week and exchange text messages on a regular basis. He also said that Los Angeles Clippers point guard Chris Paul has been instrumental in Bryant's development. (Hear that, Mark Cuban?)

    let's not crown him yet.

I like to see how he acts after he gets a mega contract.

Him and Romo are already my top 2.

If Matt Johnson pans out he's right behind them.

I never had a problem with him to begin with.

He was Michael Oher without Leanne Touhey. But since he's a Cowboys and he was a Jerry pick, the media is chomping at the bit to see him fail.

It never ceases to amaze me that people were upset about him owing $800K to a jeweler. We have a league were 75% of the players are bankrupt and people started acting like Dez was the only one making terrible decisions with his money.

I think he did foolish things, but so does the rest of the league's young players and really, young people themselves. It was only made a big deal because he's a Cowboy.

He's taking the necessary steps towards being the face of the franchise.

A WR can never be the face of the franchise...even Jerry Rice took a backseat to Joe Montana.

Wrong, Andre Johnson has been the face of the Texans for years because he was their first 1st rounder who panned out. Chris Carter was the face of the Vikings until Moss dethroned him.

Dez Bryant will never be the face of the Cowboys, as long as Tony Romo is in town.. But I believe he will be #2 since Witten & Ware are overlooked.

I don't like to make predictions... but if Dez stays healthy this year - he's going to really shine in a big way.
