DALLAS – Jerry Jones suggested on his weekly radio show that the Cowboys are contemplating holding injured tight end Jason Witten out until the Week 2 game at Seattle, which is set for Sept. 16.

Witten suffered a lacerated spleen in the preseason opener on Aug. 13. The Cowboys open the season Wednesday night against the New York Giants at MetLife Stadium.

“If we can gain on it, in this case gain another 10 days at least before we played Seattle, which would be no contact here for the Giants game, there’s almost 27 days difference,” Jones told Dallas’ KRLD-FM.

That'd be the smart thing to do.

Pure medical call, Witten isn't playing. Take it to the bank.
