Right? It's been a tough run in Dallas at TEs for a while now.
But if anyone could do it...... its Rico!
That's what is crazy about his physical skills, a ton of guys have those measurables but he has the hands of a WR. He is the ultimate fantasy projection, but when he really puts his game together (next year) he is going to dominate.
He certainly needs to beef up the blocking to fit our scheme, but there are tight ends in this league making major money who still can't block worth a lick.
His raw ability is undeniable, and it turns up every game. We're fools if we can't find a way to get him involved this season.
He will be more deadly with the first team offense because he will not be the focus of the defense,he should win one on one battles with ease.
I don't think the transition has to be a year away, I already see a big time red zone threat.
I love Witten to death, but Rico can offer Dak a serious Red Zone option,, we can all see how big of a mismatch Rico provides, even after only 2 pre season games... its rare when you have been watching this game for a very long time, and you just see that player, with that upside, and you know it will transition.
Man this is not a fun guy to tackle i bet. Especially when he gets that head of steam going.
Rico is like Marty B but with great hands. Imagine, Rico and Dez on opposite site down in the red zone. Pick your poison for the back shoulder fate.
Yeah I like the progress but I'm not getting too excited just yet.
Agree that he is already a Red Zone option, but by putting his game together I mean Rico being a three down player. I don't see that right now, I think opposing DCs would design blitzes that would expose his blocking.
I hear ya, but believe me when I say this Kaiser,,, the man can block. Rico is a very large man, even bigger TE...
He has been focused on just making a play right now, during this camp.
The blocking will come in due time,, 3 more pre season games, lets see what happens.
I was wondering about him, he doesn't look 290 at all and I was thinking I saw something in the past that he had lost some weight.
Has anyone seen any confirmation on his actual weight now?? Maybe I missed it, but I thought he had lost some weight.
My eyes see the same thing, looks lighter.
I play a lot of FF,, too much lol, and these are pay leagues with top notch updates, Guru Elite and MFL both have Rico now at 280, and they update daily.
6' 6" / 281lbs
DOB/Age Jan 7, 1994 / 23
Drafted 2016 / Dallas Cowboys / Round 6, Pick 42
Experience 2 years
Jersey # 80
This from MFL @Deep Freeze updated yesterday
Yeah he looks more like 275 to me, unless he has a really unusual amount of muscle mass. Wonder where they got the 281, but that sounds about right.
He's a handful already.
He'll pull Safties up off of Dez and Witten, that's fa sho'.
Martellus was a devastating blocker though.
Something so intriguing about him is that he seems to get a bit better each week.
With that being the case, you have to wonder what he might be a year from now.
One thing is for sure; once Gathers gets close to the red zone, he's a holy terror!
