Punting twice on the same play

I had never seen this video before. I think it's pretty cool. The announcers were saying that the refs got it wrong, that they shouldn't have let the punt stand. However, I think the rules should state that you can punt twice on the same play. If you punt, and it's blocked, it should totally be legal to pick up the ball and punt it again as long as you're behind the line of scrimmage. One of these days the NFL is going to realize that they need to consult me on all rules changes. The sport would be much better if the only knew that wisdom.

You'll be happy to know the rules do state you can punt twice on the same play, provided the first one does not cross the line of scrimmage.

Rule 9, Section 1, Article 1, Note 2:

A second kick from behind the line of scrimmage is legal provided the ball has not crossed the line and returned behind the line.

I’m guessing it would only be legal if it is the same person punting the ball twice.

We probably rarely see it because the punter is usually not involved in picking up the ball after the first blocked punt.
