All I have to say is WOW!

It took me a little long to root it because the tutorial I used was wrong but once I finally got it, installed a new ROM and overclocked it, this is a whole new beast!

I just downloaded my first rom and kernal so I have a lot more playing around to do but it is so much faster and can do so much more things.

I was pretty hesitant to root it because I didn't want to brick my phone but it really is almost impossible to brick it while rooting using RSD lite.

I advise all of you to do this (if you dont mind voiding the warranty or dont have a warranty anymore).

This is the original droid right? I think rooting the newer ones does brick the phones. I know the original droid is capable of the same bricking mechanism, but Motorola disabled the feature on the first droid.

    Gratz on rooting it.

What do you think of the Samsung Galaxy Tab? I like it, but I think I'm going to wait for the second tab. They say Android wasn't built for a tablet, but that will change in Android 3.1 which they said the second tab will have. I think they said second tab will probably have Nvidia's Tegra2 chip though though that worries me a bit. Especially considering Boxee switched from Tegra2 to the Intel Atom chip at the last minute and said it was for performance reasons. They said it had issues decoding H.264 content at 1080p. (90Mb per second) Pretty damning statement for Nvidia's new flagship mobile chip.

While I still have Nvidia video cards, I'm not liking them (as a company) very much lately.

Yeah its the droid 1. It really is almost impossible to brick the phone with the way I did it. I used a program called rsd lite to flash the sprecovery onto my phone. Really the only way to brick would be to have your phone become unplugged from the cable or the USB unplugged from the computer while it is flashing. VERY small chance. Took me a couple tries to get the sprecovery flashed on but once i did it was smooth sailing. its a whole new phone now, its crazy.

i haven't even played around with a galaxy tab yet. One of my friends has one but have not seen her since she got it. It looks very interesting, i would wait also, i usually never get the first one of anything sicne there are always bugs and what not.

that is pretty worrisome about nvidias new chip, i have nvidia chips in all my laptops as well and have not had problems with them but who knows.

even though 2.2 just came out, i already want 3.1 (gingerbread is what i think their calling it) haha.

That does look pretty sweet. I just cant think of any use that I would have for that. IDK, I might be wrong but I'm perfectly fine with my phone being able to do all/most of those things.

The original Droid is as easy to root as downloading an app from the market and clicking root. Then, putting a rom on it at that point is as easy as downloading Rom Manager from the market. I'm currently rooted on mine, running a low volt 1 Ghz kernel, and Bugless Beast v0.5. I've also got a sweet theme to go over the top.

^ I like it. I know I would hate that clock though. I couldnt stand actually trying to think where the hours and minutes are lol. I like reading big numbers :)

Yeah. I have Beautiful Widgets bought and installed, but it doesn't go with the theme as well as that particular clock does. Beautiful Widgets is really nice though.

I really don't like that UI personally, but I imagine there are others to choose from?

Tons of them depending on the rom you choose to run. A popular rom like Cyanogen has about any style you could want. Bugless Beast is getting to that point as well.

But, in the end, you're still running with a Droid, right?

Yeah, it's still running the Android operating system, but customized and with a lot more options so you can tailor it more to how you want it.

I'm currently running on the ChevyNo1 SS v4.8 with a ulowv .8 ghz kernal. It is working pretty good so far.

I'll probably switch to a 1 ghz kernal sooner or later because curiosity will get the best of me.

I've gone as high as 1.2 Ghz with a low voltage kernel. It seemed to work okay, but got kinda hot during heavy use. It sure is snappy though.
