    • Pick No. 27: San Diego Chargers select Antoine Cason, CB, Arizona

Pro analysis: The Chargers opt to keep this pick — they won't be on the clock again until Round 5 — rather than deal it for more selections. But San Diego is one of the league's better drafting teams, and they solidified their secondary here, plugging Cason into the spot vacated by free agent Drayton Florence (Jacksonville). Florence became expendable when Antonio Cromartie took his job. Cason will probably start out as a nickel or dime back, but he could eventually push Quentin Jammer to start opposite Cromartie.

College analysis: Cason was regarded as one of the top cornerbacks in the country in his final two seasons. He passed up the NFL last year and had five interceptions in his senior campaign. He finished with 13 picks in his career to rank fourth in Arizona history. Compared to former Wildcats player Chris McAlister, Cason has the same ability to make big plays at the next level.
