Owner Jerry Jones said there remains a lot of ambiguity and uncertainty regarding injured defensive tackle Jay Ratliff, so much so that they Cowboys have to consider putting him on injured reserve for the rest of the season.

Thus Jones somewhat confirmed a report from NBC’s Michele Tafoya that Ratliff’s time in Dallas was over _ though he distanced himself from that report after the game on Sunday.

“She made an accurate statement,” Jones said on his radio show on KRLD-FM. There’s no question that’s a possibility here,” Jones said. “When you say, ‘done in Dallas,’ I don’t know about done in Dallas, when you look at the rest of Jay’s career. But certainly from the standpoint of this year. We’ve got a situation that’s not positive as to him getting out on the field.

“We’re going to see as we go through this week what we’re going to do technically – that’s his roster status.”

Ratliff was placed on the physically unable to perform list before the season because of hernia and hamstring injuries that kept him out of training camp on the entire preseason. He is eligible to return to the team this week.

But the Cowboys are now looking at all options, including placing him on injured reserve for the rest of the season and also cutting him out right, if its determined he won’t be able to help them this year.

And, while Jones is not ready to admit as much, if Ratliff doesn’t play this year, it’s likely he’s played his last down for the Cowboys. He has an $8.2 million base salary next season and there is little chance the Cowboys will bring him back at that price, considering he was sidelined in 2013 and only played six games in 2012.

Ratliff, 32, is a four-time Pro Bowler, who has seen his stats decline in each of the last four seasons he’s played coming into the season.
