The Cowboys have made it a point to grow Cole Beasley’s “route inventory” in these OTAs, receivers coach Derek Dooley said.

“We’re moving him around a little bit. He’s going to have to play some outside,” Dooley said after Tuesday’s practice. “But he’s really expanded his route inventory, so because of that, he’s going to be a much better player than he was last year. And he was really valuable to us last year.”

Beasley, undrafted out of SMU two years ago, has played in 24 games and caught 54 passes for the Cowboys, despite being only 5-foot-8 and 180 pounds. His size appears to leave him mainly a slot receiver, but Dooley said if Beasley can play some on the outside, it will free up Dez Bryant and Terrance Williams to play inside, too.

“Sometimes you want a little longer, rangier guy in the slot, and sometimes you want a guy with a little more quickness in short areas in the slot,” Dooley said. “It’s just good to be versatile. I think one of the things that helped Dez last year was moving him around, and when they don’t know where you are, it starts putting pressure on their coverages. It’s no different with Cole.”

And to think that this guy almost walked away from the game.

His size still worries me, but dude seemed to make a lot of catches that moved the chains.

I think he's being utilized well, just needs to be utilized more.

Hoping he can stay on the field long enough to make it to game 1.

If he's not 'Retiring' before game 1 as a rookie, he's getting a foot injury before game 1 in 2013. ... he has had a variety of "problems" thus far just staying on the field through his first two training camps.

I hope more playing time doesn't lead to injury. He scares me when he runs through the open field. Reminds me of when I saw Pat White run through the open field for Miami. I think he went night night the first time he took a hit.

That's going to be a penalty in a few years if he keeps doing that. lol It'll be the Beasley rule.

not sure I would go as far as saying Dallas is utilizing him well. Lets take a look:

Pass Attemps (per game) to Beasley in 2013:
    1st half season = 4.5
    2nd half season = 3 (pathetic)

Now lets look at a team who knows how to utilize key players - New England and Wes Welker

    Pass Attempts per game (2012) = 11

btw: I think Beasley has as much talent as Welker did.

I don't get the worry about his size. He is basically the same size as Santana Moss and DeSean Jackson. He is little shorter but about the same weight.
