So it looks like hes gone...Eagles, Giants, Commanders all will be bidding ..so not only do we lose our #1 CB but if he goes into the division it's a double smack

Eagles .. yeah

Skins ... no. They have to pay Dunbar next season

Giants ... Don’t see them investing big into corner at the moment

Skins just cut CB Norman saving 9mil...so they have $

So they are going to pay premium dollars to Jones (15 million a year), Dunbar next year ... 14-18 million per year and Collins (10-12,5) per year the rest of his contract? I don’t think they will do that

I can see the Eagles and Giants both making a big run at Jones. Both of these teams have shown in the past they value taking players away from Dallas any chance they get. Remember when the Eagles traded up to take Goedert one pick ahead of the Cowboys? Both teams are desperate for secondary help too. The Giants have ore cap room, although the Eagles have already paid their QB.

The Eagles have stated they like to fill all their needs in free agency to free them up to draft BPA in the draft. That means they will target WR and CB in free agency, maybe RB too.

If I was a handicapper, I would lay even odds that Jones winds up with the Giants and maybe 3 to 1 odds he winds up with the Eagles. Imagine a bidding war for Jones with the Giants, Eagles and Broncos all going at it? But that never happens. Usually a player visits a team he likes and the team doesn't let him out of the building until he signs.

To be honest, I would not be upset if the Cowboys sign him for $15 million and let Cooper go, especially if they use Cooper's money to sign a big strong DT.

Hope gets all he can and we get a third comp pick. Good player but not at what it would cost us to resign him.

Would be a terrible loss for us if he's gone...doesn't create a lot of turnovers, but is a great CB. One of the hardest positions in the NFL to replace so if we lose him it's going to be hard shoes to fill.

Jones is a top 5 cover corner and IMO can cover anyone in the NFL. He’s also got a really good injury record. But the lack of turnovers makes it hard to stomach a fee more than 10m p/y which is basically 40% off the top of the market.

Cool. Dallas can run to his side where Zeke can get an extra 6 yards after contact. Jones doesnt lay the wood... ever... which explains his injury history or lack there of.

Heard on the radio today that Troy Aikman once said that he wasnt afraid to throw to a CB who only knocks down the the ball.

Dallas will survive without Jones.

I guess you don’t remember the days of poor CB play when our DBs couldn’t cover and knock the ball down.

Ints are great, but a CBs job is to keep the WR from getting open and catching the ball which Jones is really good at.

I would love to keep Byron Jones on the Cowboys. In fact, I'd like to keep Anthony Brown and Maliek Collins too. Its unrealistic, I know. But I still think defense wins championships in the long run. You need to be able to make stops or count on your defense to hold the line when you get behind. This doesn't mean the offense can stink. You need balance. But after Dak is signed, and possible Cooper too, the Cowboys will have about 65% of their cap space dedicated to offense. Of the 35% they have committed to defense, 1/3 of that is for Demarcus Lawrence alone.

Cooper is a really good receiver, but he is going to cost about $19 million a year. Jones is going to cost about $15 million. I just think he brings better value.

I most certainly do remember not too long ago when we had Wilcox and Claiborne back there. But it seems to me that Jones is overpricing himself out of Dallas. Dallas doesnt want to pay top dollar for a zero interception CB. Would i want to keep Jones? Absolutely. Do i think his PRODUCTION is replaceable via FA at half of Jones asking price? Absolutely.

With the Dak, Cooper and Jones contracts and needs at DL, S and TE, this is going to be a VERY interesting offseason.

And who are you replacing Jones with it that is as good with half the cost?
