I don’t foresee the team going wide receiver early (Rounds 1-2) unless the situation changes with Amari or our board is wiped out.

That said, I can see the team looking to the mid-rounds to add new talent to our depth.

Here’s a few prospects I think will be available in that range I’d be interested in:

Denzel Mims (6’-3”, 215 lbs, Baylor)
Mims fits the build of what we’ve typically liked at the position in recent years. That said, I can’t imagine McCarthy not finding a use with Mims superior size. He tracks the ball well, has demonstrated he’s able to reliably adjust mid-air to make contested catches. Could be a killer on the slant.

James Proche (6’-0”, 193 lbs, SMU)
Solidly built receiver that could develop into Cobb II. Great ball skills for a guy his size. Doesn’t seem to have elite speed.

Bryan Edwards (6’-3”, 215 lbs, South Carolina)
Literally broke his foot in training a few days ago. This would be a guy I’d target 4th-5th round if he drops due to injury. IMO has some traits of a #1 receiver; thickly built like former Gamecock Sterling Sharpe.

I’ve been on the Edwards hype train since he was growing up. Coached against him several times and he is damn good football player.

He always played second fiddle (Hurst, Samuel) and had poor QB play. Had he gone to Clemson as opposed to SC he’d be in first round consideration.

Well, I’ve been in on Edwards since his parents were just considering having a child.

Haven't watched game video of these guys, but from these highlights...Edwards looks like a good fit, good feet, strong, athletic n some speed. Proche, I could see taking over the slot for Cobb, Cowboys like SMU WRs too. I'm not to fond of Mims game.

That’s the sweet spot for WR IMO. Love Mims and Edwards. Also a fan of Pittman and Hill.

Would love for us to find a burner in the mid rounds outside of this list just not sure who that is yet.

Me personally i would look in the 4th or 5th round for a WR and maybe not resign Cobb. I actually like Cobb but i think the 5 to 7 mil he will command in free agency you can get cheaper. What about Dez Bryant on a league minimum deal with incentives. Cooper on one side, Gallup on the other side and Dez Bryant in the slot. Thats not bad.

What about Duverneay from Texas? Didn’t see much of the others but saw a lot of him. He’s going to have success in the NFL.

I like him. I like a lot more if we resign Cooper and Gallup continues to beast. He’s not an elite route runner and needs to get better at his route tree. Both are completely coachable and with veteran guys he will learn quick. He has explosiveness that you cannot coach.

He struggles in press coverage. But with Cooper and Gallup, he’s going to see tons of one on ones and be successful.

Yeah that’s the scouting report on him and I’m no scout but what I saw was he dominated in the Big 12. 106 catches and 9 TD’s

Mims, Edwards, Hill, Hamler, Pittman, Tyler Johnson.Van Jefferson, Peoples-Jones, Gabriel Davis, and Jauan Jennings.

I would look at all these guys as 15 million dollar savings or even multiple.

Jeff Thomas as a late round guy

I am curious to see what Mims and Claypool do at the combine.

Duvernay looks intriguing. Could be 4.3 speed, has some bulk and good hands. Start out in the slot and maybe move outside later. He's a local guy too.

Bryan Edwards, WR, South Carolina

After missing the 2020 Senior Bowl due to a knee scope he underwent at the end of his senior season, South Carolina wide receiver Bryan Edwards will now miss this year’s combine as well – but for something entirely different. He posted on his Twitter account Friday that he broke his foot training for the event, which certainly means surgery and a potential spot on the PUP list for the team that drafts him to start the season. The timing of this injury means we may not have more information until the combine medical re-checks next month, but regardless, this is another red flag on Edwards’ injury history that will need to be significantly monitored by NFL teams.

Claypool is another guy I like in the mid-rounds. I’m interested in seeing how he times out especially in the agility drills. His game is not unlike Mike Evans but I don’t believe he has Evans’ speed or movement skills; he’s a bit lumbering which I think will limit his route tree. That said, Claypool is dominant with his ball skills in the air. He’s tough to project.

I don't think Claypool has Evans' speed either but he's a long strider and that often makes guys look slower than they are.

I just want to add a big target at WR and guys like Mims and Claypool would be midround guys I'd like to take a shot on.

I am on the Van Jefferson band wagon

He seems like a really safe choice and he runs really good routes and Dak needs those kind of guys because he doesn't throw receivers open.

Mid round would love to get Devin DuVernay , 4.38 speed and runs like a RB when he gets the ball in his hands.
