"If it suits me and my family and my needs, for sure," Watkins told Teicher when asked about potentially renegotiating his three-year, $48 million contract with Kansas City. "But I'm really in a different space right now. I don't know what I'm going to do. If we win it, I might chill out. I might sit out a year. You just never know.”

What's it going to be then, eh?

All I know is that I am so glad we never finalized a deal with him when he was a free agent.

He has talent, but he is not a reliable player in any way.

This is how winning NFL managements handle the cap space . Realistic , honest and bold . No emotions .
On the other hand Jerry handed a selfish and holdout and disruptive zeke a top contract guaranteed despite a Cabo holdout .
Uhhh the Chiefs did exactly what the Cowboys did with Dez Bryant. This isn’t foreign. Chiefs can’t afford him.

Smart move by the Chiefs, they have a ton of money locked up in the WR/TE position and they're getting inconsistent production from their top paid guy who's really their 3rd receiving option.

Wonder if Mahomes working out with Dez was more of a scouting session to see if he could replace Watkins for 1/10 of the cost?

He has a ring. Why on earth would you take a pay cut? Make them cut you and watch some other team step up and overpay.

Spotrac estimates his contract at 11mil/year, 3 years. Depends what KC offers as the cut. He's currently at 14 for this year. If the cut isn't too bad, maybe he figures he's better off waiting for his next contract until after the CBA.

If you look at his numbers, he disappeared in the back half of the season. Cobb was much more productive.

No way would I pay him 11mil/year. We'll see what the league has to say about that.
