Cowboys expected to move on from Jason Witten this offseason

The Dallas Cowboys have quite a bit to deal with this offseason. Agreeing to a new deal with Dak Prescott and figuring out what to do with Amari Cooper should top the team’s list.

But where does that leave tight end Jason Witten? From the sound of it, the Cowboys have already made their decision on Witten, and some fans might be disappointed.

The expectation is that Witten will not return to the Cowboys in 2020, according to Calvin Watkins of the Dallas Morning News. Witten, 37, has expressed his desire to continue playing, but knows he’ll have to consider going to another team.

Can Jason Witten help another team?

After a one-year retirement, Witten returned in 2019 and turned in a solid season. He hauled in 63 catches for 529 yards and four touchdowns. He’s no longer at his peak, but those numbers are similar to the ones Witten put up in 2017. He saw some decline after his year away from football, but it wasn’t a steep drop-off.

Maybe the 49ers can use him.

Witten is just so far down on my list of what I'm worried about.

Crazed ruffian you SHOULD worry about him!
If he stays he inhibits Jarwin and hogs snaps.
That is a hell of a downgrade for us!
Dont forget. Jarwin could get tired of Witten's long goodbye and test FA.

I am sure Nephew Tony will go crying to Uncle Jerry to keep his BFF Witten until he is ready to get social security.

Sadly, there is always the Dallas Renegades...

Witten is still capable, much better than Dalton Schultz. Time for Jarwin to shine.

give him a rolex. put him in the roh. and move on. it took an extinction event to get rid of the dinosaurs. the worse thing that could happen is he's resigned and gets cut at the end of camp.

A season too late as he screwed up Blake Jarwin's development as well as costing the Cowboys $4.25M in cap space which they could have used towards signing SS Ha-Ha Clinton Dix (signed a 1-year $3.5M contract with Chicago) and had the following stats:

16 Games 78 Tackles 5 PDef's 2 Int's 1 TD

Yet another poor financial decision by Dallas.

The cowboys rolled over a little over 18 million from 2019. And your argument is that because of a 4 million dollar contract, they couldn't afford a 3.5 million dollar contract? Makes no sense to me but to each his own.

Time to move on from Jason Qwitten. So many forgot how quickly he dropped this team the minute he got a new cushy job with a new set of hair.
The man gave everything to this team and you are trashing him because he decided at the time it was best for him to walk away? There were LOTS of people wanting him to retire when he did. It amazes me how fast some can turn on a player "just because". My bet is YOU were one of those people wanting him gone when he did retire!
