DB Logan Ryan is a Perfect Free Agent Fit for the Cowboys if His Price Keeps Dropping

Bolstering the ranks on defense is the top priority for the Dallas Cowboys after their one-time Pro Bowler, Byron Jones, departed for the Miami Dolphins.

Luckily for them, Logan Ryan is still out there, and he's the best cornerback available on the market. The only thing standing between Ryan and an NFL contract?

His unwillingness to take a pay-cut. But as time wears on, the chances increase that he'll relent. When that day comes, Dallas needs to get busy and get a deal done.

Dallas isn’t interested in any outside free agents unless they are willing to sign a deal that basically shocks everyone when the numbers come out. If you aren’t willing to take 50-60 cents on the dollar, then Dallas isn’t for you.

That's silly, they pay the market, otherwise they would not get anybody. So you are saying that McCoy took 50 cents on the dollar? Dix?

After his demands come down DAL should so we're not forced to take a corner in the 1st. I'd rather pay a decent CB 8-10M then have to use a 1st.

More endorsement money playing for America’s Team + a very favorable tax situation kind of balances things out.

I’m actually glad Jerry has shied away from his cap-damaging, big splash ways. JMO.
I agree - but only because he overpaid recent contracts (team friendly contracts are now front loaded and not back loaded for the most part. Lots of one year deals. Very little wiggle room now. He would have to jettison someone.

He wants 10 mil. No thanks
Whoever Dylan McCaffrey is, has absolutely no idea that L. Ryan is about 10x more expensive than what the Cowboys are willing to pay

Well, to be fair the title of the article says "if his price keeps dropping." So, maybe at $7M he is a good deal? I don't know anything about the player whether he is good or not.

I would say, yes, most people were surprised at the low numbers of both deals. That seems to be the theme with Dallas and outside free agents. They never outbid anyone. If another team is actively interested in a free agent, they don’t ever seem to end up signing with Dallas. The simple reason for that is because Dallas is only interested in perceived bargains which you can’t get when other teams are also bidding for the player’s services. Dallas’ strategy seems to have evolved into sit, watch, wait, and then pounce when a bargain presents itself.

The draft is not a sure fire guarantee of success. Very few first year quality starters; most players need development. We do need a stud 1-tech DL and a couple of DBs for future.
I wonder about all the guys Jones stuck on the IR list last year. Some were not valid for that list, but that's how they work it. Time for them to play or be traded.

He’s a good corner. But he mostly works the slot

Then, I would like to have him on the team. Go get him , Jerry. He may settle for an incentive-laden contract, say $7M plus so much for playing time, INTs, pro bowl and SB appearance, etc.

How does he compare to Awuzie, Brown, and Lewis? Is he better than all 3 of them?
