I know Romo would have loved to win a Super Bowl, but having every network trip over themselves to sign you while you’re universally hailed as a highlight of every broadcast has to take the sting out at least a little bit.

I will take Manning over Romo all day long because he executed his offense and had a better team, including coaching, than Romo. He was also more durable than Romo and that counts.

Manning played the position like a well trained QB and Romo played it too sandlot.

And the only games that really count with QB's are the big games and that was no contest.

This thread should be moved to drama forum.

It’s intent has clearly been identified. Sorry I participated with clear honest responses to begin with.

Romo did not win many big games. He is historically known for not winning the big game.

2012 Loss to Broncos.. 51-48 I believe.

LOL what????
you point to a game in which Romo out-dueled Peyton Manning and put up 48 points, while his defense gave up 51, as a mark AGAINST Romo?
now i know we're in the twilight zone.
we have the worst fans.

There are a lot more. For some weird reason, YouTube got rid of several lengthy videos that showed Romo's game costing interceptions and his total interceptions from 2011 - 2013. Obviously, many complained to get those video off.

I almost lost my mind when Romo kept throwing interceptions against Detroit after we were up by 24 in the 2nd half. Even set his boy Bobby Carpenter up for a nice pick 6.

Also the Greenbay game when Romo audibled out of the run to throw a busted slant to miles Austin that got picked off and we ended up losing to a Matt Flynn led Packers team. Alot of games that we should've won ended up costing us at the end of the season. Smh

A gamble for a high 1st round pick ?

Yes, a first-round pick is a big wager on whether a player will be good or not. There are no guarantees. You could spend your first and end up with a Ryan Leaf, but you could also get a Payton Manning -- or an Eli Manning. A "calculated risk" might be a better word choice than a "gamble," but you get the idea. A second, a third, or any other round draft pick wouldn't have been enough to land Eli. They had to take the chance that it would be worth using their first, and it ended up working well for them. It doesn't always. The Commanders spent more than their first on RG3. At first it looked like their bet would pay off, but his career crashed after his rookie season. Basically, any first-round draft choice is a gamble. You're betting that the player you take will pan out, but there's no way to know for sure that he will.

Eli Manning career playoff stats:
60.5%, 234.5 YPG, 18/9 TD/INT, 7.0 YPA, 87.4 rating
these are poop numbers, and Romo with that average stat line would have won 0 playoff games, because his team couldn't carry him the way Eli's could.

In 2007, when the Giants won:
60.5%, 213.5 YPG (!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!), 7.2 YPA, 6/1 TD/INT
Eli was the definition of a bus driver throughout most of his career, but especially that playoff stretch. all he had to do was not mess up too badly. 213.5 yards per game? the Cowboys didn't win games unless Romo threw for 300+. 1.5 TDs per game, pleeeeeeeease get out of here. The Cowboys don't win a single game during those times if Romo is averaging those numbers in a game.

Romo needed to be super man, Eli needed to drive the bus down a completely empty 4-lane highway without hitting an electrical pole.

Romo skipped on ESPN's NFCE All-Decade team littered with Cowboys
By Tony Thompson

The 2010 portion of the Dallas Cowboys lauded history can be summed up in one word: underwhelming. A roster usually filled with talent constantly underperformed, a description that has become the hallmark of the bygone Jason Garrett era. The club was only able to reach the divisional round three times in 10 years, once by virtue of a wild-card bye, but was never able to reach a championship game.

The NFC East beat writers at ESPN voted on an all-decade divisional team. and it is littered with Cowboys. Of the 25 available spots, 10 of them hail from Dallas. The one player missing is former quarterback Tony Romo, who misses out on the top spot to Eli Manning of the New York Giants.

The difference is in the ring.

Manning captured a Lombardi trophy in 2011 while Romo and the Cowboys made the playoffs in just one season before injuries took over and Dak Prescott ascended. But outside of the improbable 2011 playoff run for the Giants and Manning, there’s no question who played the position at a higher level.

In terms of efficiency, Romo outshines Manning in every respect, boasting superior numbers across the board, image and numbers courtesy of Pro Football Reference.

But while Romo was undoubtedly better when he was available, the problem is he just wasn’t for the last half of the decade. Manning’s pure volume numbers lay waste to Romo, one of the most snake-bitten players of his time. With the Super Bowl acting as a cherry on top, it’s tough to argue against the Manning taking that spot.

The Dallas Cowboys who did make the list:

  • Running back Ezekiel Elliott
  • Wide receiver Dez Bryant
  • Offensive tackle Tyron Smith
  • Center Travis Frederick
  • Guard Zack Martin
  • Tight end Jason Witten
  • Defensive end DeMarcus Lawrence
  • Linebacker Sean Lee
  • Linebacker DeMarcus Ware
  • Kicker Dan Bailey

I never liked Eli but he beat Brady twice in the Super Bowl. He has two Super Bowl rings. He made big plays in crucial moments. It wasn’t always pretty abut he is a two time Super Bowl winner. Romo was a two time playoff game winner.

Romo didn’t need to be super man. He jus thought he was super man and that was the difference between he and Eli.

Manning got the ball to Tyree, didn't he? He knew he had to do something or they would lose, and he knew that receiver and believed he could make the catch. Seems to me Eli deserves to share the credit. And that's normal. It's always a team win.
Romo got the ball to Crayton, didn't he?

Eli through a Hail Mary and the guy made a miraculous catch. It's not some icon of quarterback play.

As to which I would rather watch play, no contest, Romo was that "hold your breath QB' every time he turned it loose and I wouldn't trade him for Manning just for the pure entertainment of how he played the position. He just refused to give up on a play and with that came the risk part of playing it as he did.

I also wouldn't have had near the fun discussing Manning as I did Romo on the old DC.com and witnessing the cyber version of Ali-Frazier. The only thing to discuss about Manning was his Mom got scared by too many dumb faces when she was carrying him and he was the absolute dumbest looking athlete I ever saw play. You could wake up Moses Malone from a nap and he wouldn't look that dumb.

And that "why me, oh Lord" gesture when he threw a pick was worth the 3 hour time investment of waiting for it.
