You would think but see, the 5th year is not the goal. Seriously, the idea that Dak would sign a long term deal like the one Mahomes just did is not believable to me. He doesn't want to sign anything longer then 4 years. That's why CAA is making it impossible to do a 5th year.
In terms of having him sure, but not in terms of AAV and guarantees. The only way that factors into the equation is in terms of the leverage it gives the team. When negotiating to get more than Wentz or Goff, those two years on the rookie deal mean nothing.
I think the league will have to step in an support itOver time it will but I see the cap being highly managed over the next two or three years, to be honest.
What execs? NFL front office execs?
At least you didn't lie in this post.Yawn.

No doubt it has to be less revenue this year which would lower cap next year
But the implications of a lower cap would do so much harm I think the league will have to atleast keep it the same as it is this year
A falling cap, even for one year could devastate some teams
It would make no rational sense for him to want 45 million ONLY in that year rather than just have that average push it up. Any agent who did that would be fired. Common sense says he would gladly take it as added to the signing bonus to push the average for the years up. I suspect whoever leaked that number did it in that way to try and make it sound worse than it was.
Respectfully, I don't think anyone anticipated the amount of money in the Mahomes' contract. I thought $38-40 million was elite money, and quite frankly, it was until this contract was announced. It certainly defeats the argument that Dak was looking for elite money. The Mahomes deal is what elite looks like. What Dak Has reportedly asked for, and what Goff, Wentz and Cousins got before, does Not look like an elite range now.
Yes it would make sense if you knew what their end goal was.
Yes. When GMs and agents are negotiating and looking at other deals they are not looking at "the other 2 years" they are looking at new money.
Now this deal is VERY different, but if Dak signed a 5 year deal for 200 million, then neither Watson's agent nor the team would be thinking "well to match that because of the 2 years left we need to sign you to a 5 year extension worth 253 million."
