2022??
Due to politics and whatever other reasons only Jerry is aware of Dak got 31 million (The PITY Tag) and then will be on his way to another NFL team bench come next season!
This is his last year (Thank God) as a Cowboy!

For the most part any player that signs a long term extension becomes a target. Everyone is cool with the player on the way up and then some turn against the player after they earn their 2nd contract.
I disagree, some fans on this forum think Dak is terrible quarterback period. I remember a poster who thought the best thing for the Cowboys would be to release Dak and start over at quarterback. Not trade him but cut him. This poster was not a troll either.

All the deadline means is whether Prescott is playing on an extension for the next few seasons, or on the franchise tag for this year with a second tag and contract negotiations for next year. Nothing more, nothing less.

Can we actually have a thread that has a timer counting down?

Jerry isn't getting any younger. If the Cowboys fail to make the NFC Championship game with Prescott on the tag given the strength of the roster and the new coaches then one way or another he's gone by the start of next season.

If Dak doesn't have a new deal by the 15th, I think the Cowboys will need to plan on finding a new QB.

I have to agree with this. If the Cowboys cant sign Dak to their demands by the deadline, then in the offseason they need to look at this as a situation where moving on in a year or two is a real possibility.

But they should just give him the 4 year deal that he wants. To me, its the better option anyway.

Maybe you will miss Dak as well. Many here complained about Romo and missed him after he was gone. Until you know who replaces Dak you have no idea how happy you will be with the next QB. We do know the JAG bus driver QBs that played in 2015 struggled to score TDs. Neither Romo or Dak has issues putting points on the board.

Really lucky to have both Romo and Dak. These QB challenged clowns don't even understand the game.

When I was a little kid, I thought it was all about the QB as well.

Coaching and defense have been the two big issues over the last 15 years. Yet these clowns cant figure that out.

Agreed. If Dak isn’t signed by the deadline , his future as a Cowboy isn’t likely.
why? he's getting good money on the tag which is what he was after. heck, play on two tags & seek a contract in 2022. that is even better than signing a short term contract now (if you assume his play will set him up for a large contract).
If he pouts, it will be the realization that people don't think he's anything special. Maybe that drives him, maybe he falls apart. who knows.

They will definitely end in the Fan Zone I assure you.

We have had a long off-season of people spamming thread after thread without changing anyone's mind. We are not going through a season of that in the Fan Zone.

OMG, you are my new favorite person and I don't even know you!!
If no deal is signed, can we make anyone who stated matter of factly that Dak would get a massive contract have to publicly apologize before they can post anything else? Kinda like a timeout.

I doubt we can offer a second Tag for 2021 and its not really due with the tight CAP, though that is the fundamental issue. It's because Dak can refuse to sign until the last minute which will stop the Cowboys from signing much needed Free Agents.

If we offer the second Tag we are going to need to keep back $37.7m to cover the payment.

The CAP (as per OVER THE CAP), will rise by roughly $17m, this plus a carry over from this year $11m, gives us just $10m to spend.... but if Dak leaves it late we're going to have no one left worth getting (not that $10m's going to get you much).

Brainless cap management and poor drafting also kneecapped Romo’s chances of success. Neither of which have really been an issue over the last 4 years. Well Taco was a horrific selection which I hate to be I told you so but along with others on here highlighted that straight off the bat. But largely can't really complain with the drafting. There haven't been any Mo Claibone type selections giving up of draft picks etc

haha yes keep telling yourself that. I know nothing about football. Comical.
Do you have an individual stat that shows dak is not a good qb? Or any stats that show he didn't carry the team last season?

And romo having a brokeback mountain relationship with witten that alienated the wrs and got T.O. thrown off the team.

i think u are right on this its going to end ugly if the dont give him a contract extension
Honestly , if they can't come to an agreement after the Mahommes deal, I am not sure what would get them there.

Now wait a minute. You are not seriously suggesting that T.O. needed any help alienating people & getting thrown off teams are you?
You go too far sir. You go too far. LOL

I think dak leaves then. That's just my opinion. If I were him I would have a few choice words for the Jones'

Blake Bortles would often finish games with good individual stats for the Jaguars. Was/is a good quarterback?

With Prescott's stats from last season you would think the team would have won a few shoot outs. How many did he win? How many games did the Cowboys win when losing by 10 points? Ok that's completely on the coaching, defense and special teams. In every single game including against the Eagles' back ups...
