He had proven himself a valuable commodity at DE for Utah in his college career. He was known as a hard worker who was very highly regarded as a formidable pass rusher. A 5th round pick by Dallas, it's anyone's guess if he'll be afforded the opportunity to prove himself as capable as he had been in college. He was highly regarded as having a quick first step and had a knack for terrorizing QBs. Will he do the same for the Cowboys? What say you?
At 6-3 and 269 lbs., his size and strength seems more than adequate. ;)

How does anybody take anything that happens in training camp seriously besides Injuries? Don't get me wrong hes my pet cat but really? The dline is still weak so he for sure has a chance though.

Pretty much what I'm thinking, also. It's not looking like his competition should be terribly difficult to overcome to me, either. I can't help but wonder if the new staff will afford a rookie like himself a chance to prove himself, however. I would only hope that'll be the case.

I don't know about shine, it's too bad these guys were not afforded the mini-camps and traditional training camps of years past. Anae is an effort a guy and as a rule I don't usually bet against effort. I've seen effort keep lesser athletes around, and the lack of it keep talented athletes from reaching their potential.

I'm so ready for some football I'd buy a ticket to a walk-through :)

Unfortunately with not much in the way of reps, and who knows about camp at this point, the kid will need to overcome those stumbling blocks and be on a fast learning curve if he is to get noticed and get in game reps. But something about him tells me he will do just that. I think he becomes a starter at some point this year providing the season is a 16 game schedule. He seems to have the IT factor on tape, even when he whiffs on a tackle or gets beat, he hustles. Reminds me of Troy Polamalu. I know he played safety, but the same kind of swag, instincts.

He certainly isnt getting cut.

As far if you mean if he will be allowed to challenge for snaps, I don't really see what choice the team has.

I suppose they will use Crawford there. We know what that will and wont become.

Then theres not much beyond Jelks, unless I'm forgetting someone (I see Jackson and Smith in other roles).

I'd say Anae has a real chance to impact the defense this year.

He will have his chance once the pads go on in practice. Coaches can effectively evaluate players even without pre-season games. Beat Tyron Smith a few times, he will open eyes very quickly.

If he wins a good of amount of snaps against Smith & Collins then it proves his college production can translate into the regular season.

I’m betting that he dominates T.C.

The kid led Utah in career sacks.
He's physical & with great use of his hands, Anae racked up 13 sacks as a senior, 11 of which came on the right side against opposing left tackles.

I think that's where he fits best in the NFL & where he'll get most of his opportunities. He'll "shine" in time.

I have a good feeling about this kid. Feel like hes the type of find that you get a few 8 or 9 sack seasons out of him at his peak before he falls off back to a rotational piece. This whole draft class has me excited tbh.

I'm not sure he will necessarily "shine" in TC but I'm more interested in long term production anyway.

I coached for 20 years and never got one preseason game. Coaches can see and assess talent on their own field. I promise.

I'm sure they can. But every once in a while there are guys that show up in practice and then stink on Sundays and vice versa.

While back, I remember reading that Doug Free looked so-so in practice early on. Then he was thrown in after Colombo got injured and then he won the RT spot, then LT then back to RT etc... Had his ups and downs here but overall for a 4th rounder can't complain.

Last year Jon'Vea Johnson was supposedly lighting up TC. Speed, and catching everything. But in PS he couldn't do anything right.

I think the good/special guys the coaches will notice right away and they can still show it on Sundays, but building the bottom of the roster may be tougher with no PS games.

I agree, vast majority of the roster is filled out but getting guys in game situations as opposed to controlled practice is very useful when trying to fill out the remainder of your roster. I don't agree that 0 pre season is a good ideal, however all teams are faced with the same situation so at least from that vantage it is fair. I don't see this as a yearly event where teams forgo all pre season games because they are useful.

4 things personality, Drive, focus, coachability. Well, I lied there the film the shows the ability. If the staff can see those......Fire them!
