Supposedly those who can’t do, teach. However, that’s not the case for Dallas Cowboys new Defensive Backs Coach Al Harris. He walked the walk and talked the talk for more than a decade in the league, earning two Pro Bowl appearances in the process. Things of course are a little different going from player to coach, but it certainly looks as if he’s more than up to the challenge.

With help from Al Harris, the Dallas Cowboys 2020 second-round draft pick Trevon Diggs is quickly becoming one of the better cornerbacks early on in training camp practices. He’s not only been a camp standout from a rookie standpoint, but from an overall team perspective as well. This is great news considering the unknown state of the Cowboys secondary right now.

Early on in training camp practices Al Harris has been giving rookie CB Trevon Diggs a lot of individual coaching. This teacher/student relationship is something that should help the former Alabama stud DB get up to speed more quickly. Of course, coming from a top-notch collegiate program like Alabama doesn’t hurt either.

As a player, Al Harris was known for his physical, bump and run coverage style. It’s that playing style that I believe he will try to instill in his players, which should help shorten Trevon Diggs’ learning curve immensely. He was after all at his best in press man coverage during his time in Alabama.

Wonder if they will consider starting him if he truly is playing that well? I simply am not a fan of Brown as a full time starting outside CB.

Consistency will be the key with Diggs I think. His play in college looked of the feast or famine variety. When he played well, he looked fantastic, but there were times where he looked to have 'guessed wrong' and gotten toasted pretty good (see LSU). The team will have to trust him before they consider making him a starter.

Him starting prob wont and shouldnt happen. I doubt hes outplaying brown by alot if even at all and hes a rookie. Id say give him plenty of snaps week 1. Depending on how he looks in real games will probably determine his fulltime starting potential. He doesnt deserve the starting job day 1 from what ive read.

Seems like from everything we've seen MM wants to go for the title now. And we know Jerry does. Having a rookie corner doesn't seem like recipe to achieve that goal. Not saying he won't start at some point but I think Brown or Chido have to completely fail in order for him to get it. Its crazy though because everything I've seen thus far suggests Diggs has struggled like most rookies are at corner. Haven't really heard rave reviews about his play so I sort of assumed the vets would get the spot.

This is my first time reading something favorable about Diggs. Most reports have been he's struggled and he's looked like a rookie.

I think he gets some work in here and there, but will not start until later in the season, if at all. However, I will not be surprised if they throw him in and let him learn by fire.

I haven't heard much on Lewis, I assume he's working primarily in the slot?

Last I heard about Lewis he left a practice nearly a week ago. Ankle I think. Maybe he was held out for precaution. He may be back though, have not heard anything since, other than not believed to be serious.

Its been reports of him playing good too. I just don't think hes been exceptionally good to start as a rookie. He should rotate in though

He struggled and looked like a rookie the first week or so but the past week or so says he has been making plays. Even seen footage of him locking receivers up consistently....... haven't seen him against Cooper or Lamb however think I read he broke up a pass to Gallup.

Can't recall which corner got a pick on a ball over Coopers head but was thinking it was Diggs. Could be mistaken.

No rookie camp or ota's has hurt the rookies somewhat other than Lamb. Diggs and Bernard are the two that have started to make plays too

I just looked and he was seen wearing a walking boot on Saturday for his ankle.

You haven't been online for a while then. All last week Diggs dominated the reports and tweets. All sorts of good things were said about him.
I'm probably wrong my sources were the radio and from people in attendance they described his camp as being solid for a rookie but he's struggled at times.

Got you. I think the people who I heard on The Fan were probably talking about his camp as a whole when they were asked about how he's looked.

No problem.

It was funny. This time last week people were saying the same thing. Then, all last week it was as if he heard all the talk and had a great week. Everyday the reporters kept mentioning him. Of course, Lewis and Chido were both out....that gave him an opportunity.
