The draft is fluid and you take what it gives you, obviously, even if it all offensive players. Having said that, I am hoping that the Cowboys find themselves in a position with a high pick (top 7). At that position they might be able to get a transcendent player that really helps the team out, but if not, trading back would be a great option.

How awesome would it be to end up width a top 5 pick, trade back with a QB hungry team and start moving back a few slots at a time and rack up about 15 picks out of this draft.

Most of the time I agree with this strategy, but this year, with all the uncertainty of players coming out of college due to covid, I'm trying to get as far up in rd 1 as I can. This team needs top level talent, especially on D.

I think this may be wise too but it depends on who is on the board when they pick. There are a couple of OTs coming out this year, like Penei Sewell, who are supposed to be top notch. But how much will we get to see them play in 2020? Do they take a guy like Sewell is he is available? or do they go for defense. From what I am reading the top DTs are not that great this year. Of course it's early and someone may emerge by the time the season is over.

Will there be a combine? Pro days?

The weird thing is, as it looks now, there are a bunch of bad teams along with the Cowboys. Since we play the Giants and Bengals it's possible we may jump ahead of them in the draft but I just get the feeling if the Cowboys are 2-13 going into the last game of the season against the Giants and the Giants are are 2-13 as well, the Cowboys will play all their starters to win the game while the Giants smartly lay down for the draft pick. And that win may drop them down 4 or 5 places.

Trading back is great if you can still get quality
This drafts strength looks to b be e OT
There could be a ton of OT in first round
We can use that to maybe move back some
We need defense and we may very well have a shot at top DE in this draft. If so you take him

Can’t believe we are talking about the draft so much in October.

our team is trash!
I know the feeling
And some start early every year. But this year feels different and feels like even for optimistic fans there is no hope to fixing this team this year
In that case the draft becomes the answer

Never been a fan of trading back unless you get the same guy you wanted by drafting back.

Teams get cute and they screw drafts up. This is getting cute. Draft the best player available. No point in getting to cute. A big rule in drafting is never trade away from talent.

It is typical, as there is a faction that want to tank every year after the 1st loss.

They want to tank to get higher picks, only to tank again, and again. Then as soon as the team looks decent, they want to let go of all the better players as not to cost cap money that is not their money. Then when the team does not win with all rookies, they want to tank again to get better draft picks.
It is called Groundhogs Continuous Tank Day. :muttley:

If we get a top 2 pick the haul would be phenomenal. I just don’t trust the 3 stooges with the decision.

It will depend on where you are in draft and who is on the board. With Lawrence and Fields you need to be top 2 for sure.

Picks are great but unfortunately the same geniuses who put together the current roster will be the ones doing the picking.

It's like asking the doctor who botched your operation to do a second surgery to fix his mistake. Good luck.

Excellent point....one I think some fans are overlooking. One GM said in a tweet last month, CV19 impact makes assessing players' talent this a huge challenge coz many won't have a full season or won't play at all. He gave an example of Baker Mayfield. As he put it, he's a 2nd day draft pick w/o his Jr year as opposed to being that first overall.

I think its too early to draft an OT top ten until you really see the status with Tyron and Collins. Both those guys could return healthy and play ten more years.

Right now I would target a CB and if you drafting at 7 you could trade back and take a safety and DT in second, then a OT with your high third that would develop into a starter.

Problem is you're mathematically less likely to hit on a player using a single high draft pick than you are to hit on a pair of mid/late first + second round picks. Trading down is almost always the right option.

No, you don't take all offensive players if that's what it gives you. This BPA thing gets blown waaaay out of proportion. You take BPA if the player is decidedly better than the position of need.

That's actually not true. Marinelli was telling them who to pick for his defense for years.

The defense especially is all left overs from what Marinelli wanted for his type of guys and his type of defense. In fact, the reason the defense is sooo bad right now is because Marinelli has been passing on and blowing picks for years.

Taco, Hill, Gregory, Jaylon, ect…..ect…….
