Trading Back May Be Good Draft Strategy This Year

I think its too early to draft an OT top ten until you really see the status with Tyron and Collins. Both those guys could return healthy and play ten more years.

Right now I would target a CB and if you drafting at 7 you could trade back and take a safety and DT in second, then a OT with your high third that would develop into a starter.

We don't need an LT as Martin will simply move out there when Smith can no longer handle things. This makes even more sense when you look at the fact that its easier to find guards later on and in FA.

I believe center is set with Biadasz.

Cowboys are primed for a quick rebuild, they have their 7 picks (which will be high picks in each round) and 4 tradable compensatory picks (3rd, 4th, 5th, and 7th rounds)

They also don't really have that many holes in the roster.

Depth is a question for every team, but Dallas really only has 3 weak positions - DT, S, LB....they all just happen to occupy the same place on the field lol.

I agree on OT
But they may push defensive players down is my thinking
CB, dline are the biggest needs for sure
Our secondary is bad and we lose 2 next year
We almost have to draft a starter quality guy
It’s early but at 5-7 that may even be best player available anyway
I like the DE out of Miami but CB is pretty big need

I think CB also
We lose 2 more CB after this season
There would have to be a heck of an offensive player on the board for me to take any offense player in any round

Stocking up on draft picks and and utilizing those picks to move up and grab quality blue chip, premium, gotta have can't miss game changing players is another strategy I'd try.

Just think if we would have attempted that a few years ago and moved up a few spots for Aaron Donald. Just wonder how much an easier job for our LB's.

I mean, just re-sign Chido. You draft Farley, Surtain or whoever and just hope they can be as good of a player.

Flip side of that, is you aren't improving your defense with one guy, and your offense is going to be the calling card for the next decade. Someone like Sewell is an easy pick, imo.

T. Smith is not playing 10 more years but if we could get 4 more good years will take it.

Same here but if Tyron is completely healthy he could play a long time. His game is strength and not agility, his ability to put those big mitts on someone and shut them down will still be there. He is 29 now and some OL play into their late 30's. Jason Peters of the Eagles is 38.

IF AND I SAY IF you get a top 3pick you trade back into the top ten and gain some draft Capitol. Jags would be my target cuz of the pair of 1st rounders.

This is ideal.

If you can nab Sewell or Mayfield OT then trade T. SMITH FOR A 2ND ROUNDER ASAP

You would take an 8 million dollar cap hit to do that. I'm not opposed to a top pick on a dominant OT (like Tyron was) but I want to see how healthy the OTs are before they make that kind of decision. Right now I would target a CB with the #1 pick.

agreed.

Very curious about how his surgery goes. If it's successful then Tyron will technically feel the best he's felt in 3 years.

Luckily by April they should have a glimpse of both tackles health since they both had surgeries early in the season. What would have been brutal in terms of roster management is if both of them had surgeries at the end of the year

Despite his age, it seems like there's something really wrong with Tyron's body. He hasn't played a full season in half a decade. LT is too important of a position to rely on a part-time player.

I read your whole post waiting for you to say Tyron and Collins should rub some Tussin on it.

I would do it if and I say if we knew for a fact we could get a second. Why cuz we could also fix that OG spot with Brown from Bama in the draft. Js.

If we get a top 2 pick the haul would be phenomenal. I just don’t trust the 3 stooges with the decision.

Yes. A player in the top 5 is generally going to be an All Pro type of player and immediate starter.

Of course if you were able to flip that pick for say, the 8th pick and a second round pick and a third round pick and a first next year, that’s a lot of draft capital to fix the team. If you trade back from around 8th to 10-12 range and pick up a second rounder then you would be loaded up.

I believe center is set with Biadasz.
I don’t think that move is likely.
