A word about the coaching

Okay for two straight weeks we've seen some evidence that the coaching staff might not be an assemblage of complete morons.

McCarthy seems to be putting his stamp on the team finally.
Nolan has the defense flying around despite all the injuries ..
Fassel finally got a net positive out of the special teams. The lateral play was a classic.

My one concern is Kellen Moore.. he is continually compromising our chances of winning by getting cute in the red zone. Two weeks in a row we have peed down our legs inside the 10 yard line by asking an inexperienced QB to throw at that point on the field. By my count we ran 12 plays in the red zone and 9 of them were passes. Well 8 passes, a sack, 1 TD and an INT. The runs were Pollard for -1, Zeke for 10, Zeke for 2. Sorry but this is stupid. The running game was not great yesterday but I cannot talk myself into abandoning it in the red zone.

You have to abandon it in the red zone because the run game has no chance with the way defenses stack against it. I mean look at the INT - you can't run into that front.

I don't like having only one Safety deep when we contained the run game. Later in the game we ran the same formation over and over and Ben R. roasted us.

I think this year is Kellen's audition year in front of MM. However the wrath of injuries might give him a mulligan.

People run into goal line defenses all the time. Parcells always said there are times when you have to stubborn with the run. You cannot allow alignment to automatically stop you from doing what you want to do. At first and goal at the 7 yard line I have more faith that Zeke can push the pile for 2 yards a pop and eventually get it into the end zone than I do any of these QBs throwing it. I didn't even like it when they pulled that crap with Dak but now it's just asking to get beat. There is just so little room to operate down there and we don't have a Dez to go up and take it from a defender or a Witten to step across the goal line and post up on the roster. I'm taking my chances running it down there..

Standards have gotten too low but I know McCarthy has So many built in excuses that there is no way Jerry would get rid of him.

Well their passing game really took off once Diggs went down.. I had never even heard of the guy who replaced him.. Chido can't get back fast enough.

agree outside of KM GG simply has to take sack and get the fg , he forced that ball in crowd, not sure how he saw anything with no pocket like he chucked it out of hole. Thats on Gilbert i mean what do you expect from street QB in his first game with some confidence?. The end of the game prayer also had he done whats taught to most qbs and throw that to the back of the end zne where he had guys and he pulled i the string on it..

they did what any good defense would due, stacked the run box and dared a backup qb with no real nfl experience to beat them and well he nearly did..

That's the reason you put a safety over him to help.

Yeah, he had to throw in a hurry - big mistake.

yup sometimes you simply fall down eat the sack with two hands on the ball..giving up is winning when 3 points is given in that type of game..seriously i couldnt even see gilbert at all i saw the ball fly out and knew something bad was going to happen, how could he see a WR open?

he will learn from that has time to see the film and an extra week to prepare..

Like I said.. Gilbert was in his first start and they were asking him to throw the ball into the most highly leveraged situation possible. Why do that?

My problems with Moore, especially in this game, was the Garrett influence. He would bring in 2 and 3 tight ends at times, inviting the defense to pack the box. And they did and stopped the run. We already have a severely injured OL, but he did it several times. Our most running success, and Romo kept eluding to it, was when they spread the defense out, creating creases for the RB. Spreading the defense out and running works in the red zone as well, but it seems the Garrett, makes him pack in the scrimmage, giving the DL an advantage.

Yeah I hate the 3 TE sets. Their TEs aren't even good blockers, but as you said, it invites the defense to bring 9 or 10 guys into the box. Run out of the 11 set or even. some 21.
