Cowboys did not lose that last game on purpose. And GB won their last 2 games, all they had to do was lose one of them.
I remember it very well, as the next day a friend of mine at work high 5'd. yes we get Troy.
Was working in South Florida at the time.

However it was the trade of Walker that helped create that team with all the players they got from that, not Aikman alone.

However even then, the word was GB may still have taken Mandarich since they had Makowski. So Dallas still could have got Troy. Even then some stupid pundits said Dallas should pass on Troy and take Mandarich.

Unfortunately we are out of the running of Lawrence unless we trade up to get him which I am not opposed to doing depending on the price. With that being said I don't think who is ever at #1 will give it up.

Agreed with @Hardline .

As for another poster, this is not about tanking to get access to the overall #1 pick in order to draft Lawrence because that is never going to happen. The point here is that tanking allows the team to secure a higher draft pick (possibly a top spot), thus allowing the team to pick the best top talent available not only in the 1st but each round thereafter. THAT is how this team could best fill in spots of need with the best available talent in each round. If one does not understand that, they simply have an stubborn agenda.

This article is dead on accurate .
Not even debatable.
I read the article and I definitely disagree that the Cowboys tried to lose that last game in ‘88. It certainly benefitted them as Schramm indicated post game. But notice that he also said, “Well at least the day wasn’t a total loss” when he saw that the pack had lost.

The other thing we must always keep in mind. Having a top 3 pick- even the #1 pick in this draft guarantees absolutely nothing. There’s no guarantee that Trevor Lawrence is the next Troy Aikman. Or Justin Fields. The last 20 years are littered with names of QBs or other position players who were “can’t miss” players that were exactly that. Misses.

Intentionally losing is stupid IMO. Would I cry if we got a top 5 pick? Of course not. But habitual losing is already a problem this team has had for nearly two seasons. After that 3-0 start last year, this team has been 10-17. And they were trying to win all 27 of those games. This team is not very good as currently constituted. Just like that ‘88 team, they don’t have to make any effort to lose. They have proven very capable of that even when going all out. Winning games is not a switch you turn on or off.

I made my point.

Jared Goff is a good QB, Ryan Tannehill is a great QB and we see that now but was stuck in Miami hell, and Cam Newton was an NFL MVP at one point and had some good years. Two of those QBs got to a Super Bowl.

I named a bunch of 1st round QB failures so yes, I made my point. The fact you can’t even acknowledge it is telling about your cognitive ability and or agenda.

Lol
When was you diagnosed with Dunning Kruger syndrome?
You listed a bunch of failures and ignored the successes.
You are great at making half an argument.
Unfortunately that's the limit of your debating skills.
You wont touch the other side with a 10 foot poll.

Coach Landry's last team didn't lose on purpose.
8 of the 13 loses that year were by 8pts or less.
they were young but had alotta heart.
that road win in d.c. late in the year is still one of my favorite Cowboys/skins games.

I’ll name some. Peyton Manning, Aaron Rodgers, Alex Smith, Patrick Mahommes, Eli Manning, Matt Ryan, Ben Rothenberg, John Elway, Dan Marino, Jim Kelly. They all have been to the Super Bowl except for Smith. Smith’s career was good when he went to KC. Oh and they all were drafted in the 1st round.

I made my point which I obviously need to spell out for you because you’re too dense to grasp it. Drafting QB in the first round is no guarantee for success. There are just as many failures as successes. Get it yet?

Oh please. Everyone & their mom knows the Rams reached the Superbowl due to that missed Pass Interference call on them vs Saints.
