Tony Romo looks ahead to Super Bowl LV: One of the greatest matchups in sports history

CBS Sports' Tony Romo previewed Super Bowl LV on a conference call Thursday and he said the matchup between Tom Brady and Patrick Mahomes is one of the greatest in sports history.

In fact, CBS Sports' Tony Romo, who will be part of the broadcast, believes it's one of the greatest matchups in sports history.

“This is going to be one of the great matchups in sports history,” he said on a media conference call Thursday. “This is what you talk about with your friends. Could you imagine if Michael Jordan got his team to the Finals against LeBron — who is becoming the face of the league? We’re getting that in this Super Bowl.”

“[Mahomes] is the only kid that is going to be in the discussion,” he said. “This is the matchup people will be talking about 25 to 50 years from now. As a football fan, this is as good as it gets. This one is really special.”

I love how excited and glowing Tony gets when he discusses Brady.

Probably because he never could beat him.

Tell me when he was on a Cowboys team that could have beaten him? Now when they played in 2007 we gave them a good fight for three quarters (even taking the lead) before they stomped us in the 4th when our D collapsed.

or maybe because he’s a good announcer and realizes Brady is the best nfl player of all time
Frankly I think there are a number of players who were transcendent at their positions. Our Own Larry Allen for one. LT. Several others. This endless bleating about Brady is getting old.
He benefited from being in exactly the right place at the right time. BB and his system was a perfect fit for him. Being in a division that was not competitive until the last couple of years was also very lucky.

Doubt it. Most of the guys I know won’t be watching. I know I won’t.

Interest just isn’t there.
It will be interesting to see what the ratings are. They were coming up with all sorts of excuses why the NFL ratings were not so good this year.

You can look at it how ever you want to but the guy has 6 Super Bowl wins and is the greatest qb and nfl player of all time...he deserves praise and the hatred he gets at the same time

As a Tom Brady hater, i have to agree you have to give him credit now. you can always come up with excuses or scenarios on why he has been successful, but i feel it is just sour grapes. You can still argue if he is the BEST QB ever, but in terms of successful, he is the GOAT. So i tip my sombrero to him.

Nah, the NFL is far less popular than it was a decade ago.

Actually, it's not. Even with recent declines the NFL still averages more viewers than it did in 2010.

That's why several networks, not to mention Amazon, are throwing $100 billion at the League for TV rights in 2022.

Thank god he’s on the broadcast....he’s the best in the business and makes the games so much better
I like Romo in the booth overall and there’s no question he has broadcasting talent. BUT...hate to say it- for me he talks TOO much. I just want to watch the game. I don’t need every single play pre-diagnosed in granular detail. I actually prefer Troy to Romo because he’s calmer and more measured. But it’s all just personal taste I guess.

What kept the Dallas D off the field that day was Barber. Except Opie decided to run Barber every play in the second quarter instead of giving Julius Jones the ball and spell the workhorse.

Barber was done in the second half and that is what put the Dallas D on the field to lose the game.

Fight the good fight doesn't count here. Dallas was the better team. Garrett was the OC who scuttled that game.

Tony is right in terms of this being as good a SB matchup as possible. I think you're right that the NFL has turned off a lot of people.

Very bad sign for the future of the NFL if they can't get people to watch Brady on a New Team vs. Mahomes.

It's either Brady cements himself as the GOAT, and shows up Belichick, or it's the passing of the torch to Mahomes, a 2peat in KC, and a potential dynasty in KC.

Reid has been doing a really good job at KC. Playoffs all but 1 year. Double digit wins the last 6 years. Mahomes starting for 3 years: lose Conf Championship, SB Winner, in SB.
