Nothing is imminent and no new proposals have been swapped but there is growing optimism within the Dallas Cowboys organization that they can finally sign quarterback Dak Prescott to a long-term contract extension.

According to a source, Cowboys vice president Stephen Jones has had recent conversations with Prescott’s agent Todd France and both are of the mindset that they need to get a deal done.

Because even a front office as incompetent as Dallas’ knows you don’t let a young, proven franchise QB go. Period.

Get it done.

Don’t complain when we fail to put enough around him then.. You don’t get to celebrate signing Dak to all that money and then complain about defense and everything else..

He’ll be paid to have an elite QB impact..

Did they not want that deal a year ago? Sure they did and yet it did not happen. Nothing has changed. Don't get your expectations up, because the same incompetence that prevented the deal a year ago is still there now. Expect more of the same.
You’re right. No argument here.

But it’s that sad part of the offseason where we hang on every single media report until something happens. They got me last year too.

How did Deshaun Watson do last year after getting paid?

Texans went 4-12.

So in your mind, Watson’s no franchise QB and the Texans are better off without him, right?

Please confirm. Thanks!

I don't believe that they did. The franchise tag was less than his average per year would be and they had the room to tag him. I think Dallas would have signed Dak last year to a deal that favored the team more than Prescott. This year, I think both sides will give a little ground because they don't want to use the tag twice, especially since it increases quite a bit the second time you use it.

Some chalk what happened up to incompetence, but I think it was a thought-out course of action.

The Texans are better off trading him and starting over.. They suck with him.

Elite QBs consistently get to the playoffs even when their team sucks.

Ahhh so Catch’s ego has now expanded to believing he can tell other posters how to feel.

Also, if the cowboys sign Dak. We can’t complain when they blow defensive draft picks left and right, like they’ve been doing for years now.

Houston is a team grossly mismanaged. They're worse than us. Watson's cap hit last year was under 10 million. They're terrible managing the cap. I'm pretty sure they traded Hopkins because of the future Watson cap hits. Look at the Cowboys. Most of the money is on offense. Pay Dak and there will be little to no room for D. Don't pay him and the team will suck even worse. Dallas will be in bad shape either way. Just my opinion.

It's easy to fall into that rut because we have passion for our team. But I'm tired of the drama and I just refuse to be fooled that something will be different this time. I'm now a cynic. Frankly, If I were Dak, this is my message to the Cowboys FO... Continuing to hang that tag on me is tantamount to giving me my walking papers in 2022. Either respect me as you claim you do by giving me the deal I want or 2021 is the last season I will play for you. Am going to ball in 2021 and someone else will give me what I want in 2022. I don't need you, Cowboys, you need me.

Cowboys SB bound 2021!

You have a finite salary cap that governs the talent you can sign on your team. Which means the more resources you allocate to Dak the fewer resources there are to dedicate elsewhere. That’s just basic math. All he’s saying is to not whine when this happens.

Unfortunate consequences of having an incompetent as your GM. Like the Texans had and the cowboys do have.

They will get a deal done when Dak agrees to 5 years.
This wont take long, Daks hurt and Dallas wants 5 year term, so now both parties will agree rather quickly.
If and when they talk the above is more than likely happening and would actually shock me if DC FO walked from Dak at this point if Dak gives in on the term,, the money was already on the table but greedy influential agents get into young players minds ... in every sport.
I believe Dak actually learned something witch is a part of maturing,,, I hope Dak learned that not everyone that you pay to represent you always has only your best interest at heart.
Everyone knows my stance with the QB position, huh, or at least should, but Im also a realist, just because fans have opinions doesnt mean they cant remain loyal fans, and doesnt mean that you dont understand the politics of this game.
If Dak is reigned on a short term at 39 or more, it jus is what is, and all we can ever do is just hope for the best.
The best time to ever make your voice heard, no matter how miniscule that opinion might be you need to speak up before the transaction takes place, or I guarantee you know one is ever going to hear an opinion, a different thought on a matter.

Has he been lately? I'm not saying he's been great. But he has been much much worse in the past.

I think he has gotten lucky and if you are going to evaluate a GM shouldn’t the bad contracts count towards it? Dallas will regret paying Dak like an elite QB and it’s a decision that’s going to really hurt as that contract ages.

I get the feeling Dallas will sign on Dak’s terms.

Jones’s always stretch out these negotiations only to take a huge L in the end.. It’s what they do.
