I watched that interview and frankly, it missed the neon sign that smacked them all in the forehead as they passed it by.
The dynamic at play here, right now, is control. This, IMO, is not about Dak as much as it is about losing the game and the integrity of the current structure, in which, the game is set up to work in. QBs demanding all this money is a game changer and a killer, longterm, IMO.
Fans should pay attention here. This is what those ridiculous contract demands are going to get you. Wentz and Geoff and even Dak's situations are views into what will happen if this current model is not corrected. We had fans on this very board telling me that Wentz was getting paid more then Dak and Goeff as well. Had TV personalities telling all of us that both of those QBs were better. Well, they both probably were before those contracts. With those contracts come very specific types of pressure. In the case of Wentz, the fan support he had before the contract, up and died, only to be replaced by hate. He is not longer the same QB because the support he had from his own team and fan base changed because of that Contract. Now, be it the change that happened with Wentz specifically or from the team and/or fan base, it happened and it happened because of the contract. Wentz, prior to getting that deal, had proven nothing and the team gave it to him way before he earned it. Way before he was ready IMO. They basically ruined their own QB with that contract. Now, he's in serious trouble and Philly is screwed by their own hand. Geoff, his situation is all about the money. The Rams signed him to this deal knowing the whole time that they would be getting out of it before they actually had to pay stupid money so, as I said many time over, his deal was never all that good. Dak's deal, the deal the team offered him last year, was better then both of these other QBs but of course, everybody knew better except they didn't and now we are here. Dak is making a mistake here but it's his to make so that's a different discussion. What is more important is that this is what's going to happen to all of these QBs and agents who demand stupid contracts. They are going to get a few years of money but when the real money comes into play, they are going to get cut. People are surprised that we have so many good QBs available well, I'm not. You could see this coming for years now. This is going to continue to happen until players wise up. Agents are going to push this thing no matter what because they get paid up front, off signings. The more deals they can sign for bigger numbers, the more money they make because they get paid up front off a percentage of the deal. So for them, the bigger the number down the road and the tougher the situation it creates for the team, the better for them because it either forces the team to restructure at bigger numbers, which is another payday for the agent or the QBs get cut and the agents eventually sign another deal with another team and again, they get paid. But the QBs, they are typically paying for it and the fans and the rest of the team, they are definitely paying bigtime. It's bad business and very harmful to the team but sure, lets go ahead and support this horrible business model like the ignorant fans we apparently are.
This is so bad and yet, we are all on board with it right? Well, not all of us but then so what, the rest of the fan base just thinks we are stupid or worse because it's easier for them to believe we are stupid and much, much worse, rather then just use a little common sense and understand that their willingness to follow the hurd over the cliff is wrong minded, it's not good and it's a mistake. Just can't bring yourselves to admit it thou. It's really unfortunate, I hope Jerry understands that we don't have to be stupid and just allow these agents to continue to ruin our teams. We can do the smart thing and create stability.
But what do I know right? I'm just a hatter with very little grey matter so yeah, carry on.......
