I’d take a high 2nd if someone wanted to do it. We aren’t paying him anyway.

We spent a 1st round pick on CD and Amari is locked into a long term contract ...........which means Gallup has no future in Dallas. Trade him or he walks away next year and we get nothing but a compensatory pick.

Michael Gallup easily would have caught for more than 1,000 yards this past 2020 season if Dak had not gotten injured during Week 5. Even having to play behind 3 backup QBs the last 2/3rds of the season, Gallup caught for almost 850 yards with a 14.3 average/catch and 5 TDs on only 55 catches. That is very good! Gallup helps stretch the field and open things up better underneath for Cooper and Lamb.

We all saw how big of a mistake it was to let Alvin Harper leave via free agency. It affected Michael Irvin's game big time. The same would happen to Amari Cooper if Michael Gallup is let go. Sure, the Cowboys still have the very good CeeDee Lamb, but Lamb is strictly a slot WR who can better use his excellent route cutting to gain separation from LBs and slot DBs underneath. I don't see Lamb having the ability to get open deep on sideline streaks, thus stretching the field underneath, the way Michael Gallup can.

Jerry needs to find a way to keep Michael Gallup, especially since Gallup is a key piece to our WR starting arsenal, his play certainly helps open things up for Cooper & Lamb, and Gallup is only getting better.

I actually love Ced Wilson. I think he and Noah Brown can step right in the 3rd wr spot and we wouldnt miss a beat. IMO...Wilson is a much more polished route runner and faster. Gallup is a 50/50 ball guy.

Lol Why would the official account tweet this? Clowns.

Hmm. Could it be that it's part of their running "Mailbag" series where three or four reporters answer a question send to them by readers? It's as if maybe a reader asked about it (since ya know, it's been a topic all year) and they figured they'd address with with various opinions from reporters. I dunno. Not sure, but I think the word "mailbag" in the tweet might be a hint.

1. Listen to any offer (as you should on any player) but I doubt you get a 2nd for an upcoming FA. Maybe a 3rd but probably a 4th because yet again this is a deep WR class in the draft.

2. As for pricing himself out of Dallas I am not sure.
A. Outside of Robinson I am not sure these WRs are going to get huge money (maybe Godwin and JJ will probably get overpaid). I think Gallup is more in the 2nd tier group (non-number ones). Look to see what Marvin Jones gets and see if that is affordable. I think he will be more affordable than we think.
B. If he does explode and command a huge signing then you can probably re-sign him to less than what Cooper is makeing. You can then trade Cooper (tradeable after next year) for more than you could get for Gallup this year because Cooper has a better track record and because Cooper is signed for more than 1 year and without the signing bonus attached to him will be cheaper for the new team.

3. Even though I think you can find a good WR in this draft it will still weaken the offense. Not sure that is in the best interest for this team. If 1 WR goes down we are starting the rookie or Wilson, not ideal but doable. Especially since the 5th receiver is going to probably be either an UDFA from last years practice squad (Johnson or Parker) or one from this year.

4. He might actually have more value during training camp and the season as an injury replacement.

Litmus test. They might have gotten a few offers that they're meh about, but consider pursuing to up things via negotiation.
And yet they want to know fan reaction, like they always do.

I agree. Kind of a crazy way to go about testing the water. Might not be as smooth walking it back. Usually you'd leak something like this through unofficial channels so you have room to crayfish. Maybe they already have a good offer and figured they'd try to top it?

I don't know why so many people would trade Gallup. If anything, I see the cowboys letting Cooper go or a trade. Gallup stays as the number two and Lamb becomes the one receiver. And I like Cooper, just don't see that contract being completed.

In a heart beat, and I'm a big fan of his. Depends on what we can get. You're going to lose him anyway. Might as well.

They're announcing a Cowboys Mailbag article.

And we should trade Gallup if we can get a 3rd or more. IMO, Lamb was too good of a deal to pass up last year, but drafting him *did* leave us overly invested at WR. Cashing out Gallup can alleviate that, and leave us with two WR#1s until we move on from Cooper.

That PFF article hypothesized Miami's 3rd and a 4th for Gallup. Then trade back the 10. Get a later 1st and a 2nd.
With comp picks, we'd have 1, 2,2, 3,3,3,4,4. Wow. And every pick *could* go to the defense. That's a draft to build a defense real fast.

It's a mailbag question..
Should, or could the Cowboys look to trade Michael Gallup to get a Top 40 draft pick and a conditional 2022 pick? I think highly of Gallup, but by this time next year his price will prove to be too rich to keep him. Jets, Titans, and the Ravens come to mind as possible targets. — JAMES HOBSON / CHEYENNE, WY

A top 40 pick *alone* is not even a question. For *1* year of Gallup? If any team is dumb enough to offer that, snap it up immediately.

Me, I'd take a 3rd alone and be glad of it.
