Stephens on record of wanting Dalton back but he may find more money with another team. Fish mention Alex Smith as an option. Didn't think much of it at the time but I didn't know MM was his OC when he was drafted by the 49ers. I'm guessing he's def an option. I guess the question is how much he'll cost.

FYI.....Someone also mentioned Colt McCoy in a tweet last week

Alex Smith is basically an older Dak Prescott so it would make sense to have him as his back up.

I think "G squared" was really good against the Steelers last season, I'd give him a shot at backup QB.
I'm cool with this, despite GG's first name.

Edit, Zen-like question for the Mods:
If you Like a post to someone that has you on Ignore, will they hear the tree fall?
Or is it the sound of one hand clapping?

Oh, I bet that would frustrate Jason Garrett. One hand clapping.

Alex Smith nor Andy Dalton are desirable imo. Pay these $6-8M or whatever to win 2 games out of 5...nah those millions should go on a defender. You need defense more than a QB2.

Sign up Gilbert and draft a guy or something, but it's Dak or bust at QB. Invest in defense.

Dallas could potentially try & target a handful of later round prospects at the position including a potential "hidden gem" in Stanford quarterback Davis Mills.

They could also target Texas quarterback Sam Ehlinger who tossed 94 passing touchdowns and only 27 interceptions during his four years at Texas.

To be honest, I think Alex is slightly better than Dalton.

I think so too but both would be quality options.

I'd probably lean toward Dalton on account of the leg. If we're lucky enough to need our backup QB for an extended period of time I'd rather roll the dice that Dalton can make it through the gauntlet.

Everyone give up on DiNucci?! Seriously I wonder if they let him off the practice squad. I could see rolling with Gilbert though. He if sucks in the preseason then have a vet or two on speed dial. If Dalton is willing to come back then that is likely the ideal situation because he knows the offense and the WRs.

I'd prefer to save money on the backup QB and use it elsewhere on a true need. Gilbert, DiNucci or a rookie will have to do. We paid Dalton $3 million. We couldn't have gotten much for that, but add it to what we paid one of the scrubs we signed and we could have gotten a decent player.
