Will Jaycee Horn be the pick?

I was thinking. We had recent mock drafts with the cowboys taking Jaycee Horn at 10.

then on the most recent episode of “the draft show” Kyle Youmans broached the topic of “is Horn worth taking over Surtain”

and they all discussed the differences between Horn and Surtain with most of the other guys saying that Horn would be worth the pick and in some ways has positives that Surtain doesn’t.

Just makes me think is this like smoke that the cowboys like Horn more than Surtain and he is the target? Are they planting seeds that Horn is going to be the pick if he is available?

I don’t mind Horn at 10 and think he is a CB with a lot of upside.

but it the whole thing just has me intrigued.

Basically, they're very similar prospects and equally good fits. Horn is more athletic while Surtain is more technical.

Read an article that am not allowed to link to. To me, it's personal preference and I could see the team valuing Horn more than Surtain.

Personally, I'm cool with either and expect one of them to be the pick

I feel the same way. I would be fine with either guy to be honest.

They are saying that Horn has that Dog in him that Surtain does not. Said he his a very big chip on his shoulder type of player. His pops had that type of attitude as well. Hell, this team needs some attitude on it.

I'd be pretty upset with Horn over Surtain. Surtain is a clean, clean prospect. There's very little to nitpick with his game.

Horn has more potential, maybe, but also way more flaws as of now, and we need a good CB now. And who's to say Horn's flaws get worked out?

I think people are overthinking Horn.

He has upside, but he's not the caliber of prospect that Surtain is.

Cracks me up when I see people saying Horn is better and then give their reasoning by saying things like “he’s a dog” and how he “plays with an attitude”...but never mention anything to do with actually playing football. I get the appeal of Horn, but as of right now the guy is a walking penalty flag in the NFL. He’s way too grabby and physical in coverage and will need to make some fairly significant changes when transitioning from college to the NFL...in my opinion of course

Lol yea. I mean I think the top-10 thing is just because of the Farley surgery...but he's more of a pick 20 prospect. It'd be more accurate to compare him to guys like Melifonwu, Newsome, etc. who are in that second-round conversation. He's in the tier below Surtain and Farley.

I’m not arguing in favor of one over the other.

I guess my main question of the thread is. Are we seeing “smoke” between some people In the media mocking Horn to the cowboys. And now the cowboys.com draft show making it a point to discuss possibility of Horn over surtain. Is this like hints that the cowboys actually like Horn more? Are they trying to condition us for this pick?

just a curiosity.

1st, I don’t think the writers at cowboys.com have any insight to what the cowboys are actually going to do. If the Cowboys telegraph their picks in anyway it’s by who they visit/bring in to the facility. With covid it’s a little muddier this year though.

But in my opinion I see the Horn talk as a bit of a lazy narrative just because everyone knows the cowboys need a CB. 1st it was Surtain/Farley, but conveniently right after Farley has back surgery Horn jumps into the conversation? Would the Horn talk ever have arrived if Farley doesn’t need surgery?

I understand that “best player available” isn’t bullet proof, but drafting Horn at 10 would be 1 of the bigger draft for need over talent mistakes the cowboys could make.

I don't think they think about conditioning us to anything. They do what they want to do and then try and sell that.

They're making some assumptions based on media speculation and these mock drafts. The only thing that seems sure is that 4 QB's are going before they pick and most likely Sewell, Pitts and Chase. However, my assumption is based on the same thing theirs is and no one really knows for certain except in those first 3 picks, QB's.

We do not know where Pitts, Waddle, Smith, Slater, Parsons, Surtain or Horn fall on any team's board. And few teams play BPA in the 1st round and we really don't know how any team constructs their board.

I think those wanting them to trade down forget who they're dealing with here. They need to take the best player at 10.

I agree with Hellman’s take discussed on the show. People have gotten bored of seeing Surtain ahead of Horn’s the whole time so people are creating intrigue.

If both guys are on the board, I think (and hope) Surtain will be the guy. Horn is very raw and honestly a bit overrated IMO at this point.

I don’t think you can afford to miss with a pick that high. Surtain has almost zero bust potential whereas the same can’t be said for Horn. For that reason I take Surtain

I wouldn't say Surtain doesnt have that in him. Horn just plays like he is the Hunger Games

He's the best man to man cover corner in the draft

i think he is a target...among many.
surtain.
parsons...if he makes it.
horn.
slater.
phillips.
and you gotta think one of those bama receivers might be in the discussion.
but horn is a helluva player.
im starting to feel like surtain goes before 10 and horn may very well be their guy.
