I completely agree with the idea that pass coverage is aided by pressure and pressure up the middle leads to good things for the defense. I am also advocating drafting Barmore in the 1st round, just not at 10. If they can trade down, pick up a 3rd round pick then take Barmore in the 1st and Samuel, or Stokes in the 2nd that would be the start of a pretty good draft. That is one way to address the defense in this draft but there are others. There are a couple of insanely powerful DTs who may not be as athletic that can be had in the 3rd round as well. I just hope the Cowboys have DT on their radar.

They are probably the only ones that don't see it.

With the franchise giving a boatload of cash to the QB position, this team needs to get more players at rookie deals to offset the salary cap. And the draft is a crap shoot to begin with, so more picks are needed to increase of the odds of a few more players to be impact.

Makes sense
Best case is a trade down to 15-18 and take Barmore
That’s kind of where I’m leaning as well. Gregory Dlaw basham and now anae is a nice enough rotation at DE. It’s not incredible but it’s sufficient IF they get help in the middle. I like the idea of Surtain and McNeill in the second however.

Not sure about virtual one on one but we sent the big guns to the Alabama pro day.
yep. just curious as we know Surtain is on there radar, just hadn't seen any specifics on Barmore. Just have a feeling that they would not take him anywhere in the first round. We shall see.

I would love Surtain at 10. For me the next best DT would be Levi Onwuzurike from Washington if he was there at 44. Chris Simms rated him the best DT in the draft. He played nose tackle but has the strength and quickness to get a quality pass rush on the interior.

McNeill is a 1T and most people have him in rd 3 range. If we take Surtain in 1 then we lose both Moehrig and Barmore and will likely take Grant or Williams in 2

I am ok with Surtain and Grant. I think we are good at 3T but we need a run stuffer. Shelvin in the 3rd or 4th would be nice.

The best strategy at the top of the draft to me is to maximize top 100 picks

also remember that while Surtain is better, the drop off between Horn and Stokes is not a lot and this scheme does not require elite athleticism just good disciplined physical CB play

with these 2 factors in mind the best strategy would be a trade down to 15-18 range

rd 1: Moehrig
2a: Kevi/Barmore/Nixon
2b: trade up using our rd 4 or 5 pick to get Stokes

that’s a much better haul than Surtain and Levi IMO

Good Point. I actually just did a throwback draft wiith a trade back that netted 12 players with five in the top 100. We're bound to hit on some of the other seven like we did with Dak and Wilson.
20 Barmore immediate quality starter
41 Moehrig Starter w/i 2 years
52 Tyson Campbell Starter w/i 2 years
75 Nick Bolton Starter w/i 2 years
99 Spencer Brown Quality backup w/ starter poetential

See my dig below, I want those four players regardless if we have to trade around or up to get all of them.

Why not grab both? :)

Move down from #10 to #15 for #96 and NE's 2nd-rounder in 2022. #44, #96 and #99 get you to #27'ish. Then trade up. #44, #96 and #75 may get as high as #22. Would you give those three picks to come out of round one with two of Horn/Phillips/JOK/Moehrig/Barmore and an extra round two selection next year?

If we trade down Will be a good strategy
If we sit at 10 will be a good strategy
If we trade up will be , JJ tragedy

Barmore at 10 would be an absolutely travesty...Barmore in a trade down would still not be good.

At this point the dude is a solid, nickel pass rush DT prospect. He is not a 1st round talent.
