Country Music?

from his brilliant Elvis Country LP.
recorded at his equally brilliant nashville marathon sessions in june 1970.
released in '71...one of his greatest albums.

LMAO, check out his next album after winning Country Artist of the Year.

He had some surgery in CA and his bud brought him some gummies and according to him he was higher than giraffe balls. I do not like country but I love this guy. He's the definitive "different cat". He is freakin' awesome!

There are five junk stores in Porterville, once a month I take all my change and see what I can find, ya just never know. Well that is how I discovered him, a brand new CD still in the wrap, cost me a quarter. So I'm listening to him thinking, damn this cat is good and like 70% of my massive music collection number 9 my fav song there. Yep, the one above.

You know more about him than I do.

Then there is....(who I discovered the same way, junk store)

.

Love all of it except the opera.

I'm not a fan of country but like a few artists Willie and Hank are 2 of them

The first country was recorded in the early 20's, we had Frank Hutchison, The Skillet Lickers, Dock Boggs, some others but was too close to just white guys singing them blues. The first legit country is considered to have come from a recording date in 1927 that gave us the Carter Family and Jimmie Rodgers who has been called The Father of Country Music.

Let me make it clear not a cowboy here actually into all of it country just being one of the sounds I enjoy.

Love this..

Burl Ives, Vaughn Monroe, Johnny Cash all do a cool version.

This was a stunner....

Clarence Ashley did the original in 1933

Robert Williams was discovered in Angola Prison, he was in his 50's before he ever recorded.

The other guy is Mississippi Fred McDowell who also recorded late in life.

another great track from one of my favorite albums.
this brilliant cover comes from the marathon sessions in nashville in june 1970.
everything comes together perfectly.
Elvis' vocals and james burton with some brilliant guitar pickin'.

Elvis would perform this many times on stage towards the end of the show...asking for the lights to be turned up.
but those live performances just can't touch this brilliant studio cut.

from his historic satellite concert in hawaii...jan 1973.
one of his most moving performances.
his phrasing is perfect.
its one of my favorite covers he ever did.
its all about "feel".
and no body can do it better.
