I don’t understand the hate for Smith. He had a horrific injury, came back, and played pretty well for a couple of years. It’s not his fault the FO gave him a bad contract (as in bad for the team). Would you turn it down? The injury just destroyed his athleticism. It was no one’s fault. It’s past time to let it go.

^^^ This. He's not a bad guy. It's just that it's TOUGH to have a skill level high enough for the NFL. Injuries robbed him of abilities, despite his working hard to rehab. I wish the guy well in whatever he pursues whether it's in football or not.

The practice squad is different this year (and last). The relaxed rules mean that you can stash newly-signed vets there while they get up to speed (and in shape) without having to waste a roster spot on them. That's what Baltimore did with Latavius Murray, Devonta Freeman and Le'Veon Bell. The Giants would probably sign Jaylon this way initially even if they thought he really was an answer for them.

He's not, of course (an answer for them, or any question for that matter), so your larger point stands. He's done.

The Packers signed him to their active roster earlier in the season. The Giants want to take a look at him but his days in the NFL are numbered. It didn’t take long for Green Bay to move on from him, it’s obvious he can’t play. This is his third team in less than 3 months.

Things are a lot different this year because of the situation we’re in but Smith wasn’t signed to the Packers practice squad when Green Bay signed him earlier in the season. He filled the roster spot of outside linebacker Chauncey Rivers.
Understood, each circumstance is diff with different teams not all about talent, like when the titans signed AD after Henry's injury, he was signed to the practice squad so they could work the roster out then they brought him up
